I'm no longer doing comm work, but was very active in the communications field for years. This toner is fairly 'old-school' which kind of means easy to use and reliable. I have used it on various types of circuits, from POTS wires, to data lines, to house wiring (no voltage!). Worked great in all cases. Tone is easy to hear, which is great for those of us missing a lot of our younger abilities in that area. It's simple, rugged, and good quality.

PProfessional electrician here.Although this is made for tracing telephone lines, and it works well at that, I also use it for tracing UNENERGIZED! power lines to find if they are good, and approximately where the fault is if they are bad.

It did what it said it would do. I had to find a tv cable in the attic to hook up an antenna I installed in the attic. I was able to detect the tone and find the right wire to hook to the antenna. Would recommend.
