The GREYCORE Tools Self-Feed Drill Bit is an auger style drill bit. It arrived in a timely manner in a fitted plastic protective container. It was just as described in online information. Also included is the removable pilot and a hex key to secure it.  Instructions are not included. This unique tool resembles the auger bit of a hand brace in use since the days of the Ark.  Instead of the second cutting edge, there is a hole-saw with 6 cast teeth.  Instead of the fixed center pilot, there is a removable pilot that extends 3/8-inch past the flat cutting face.  The tool bit has an unusual 7/16 hex shank and can only be used in heavy duty drills. The robust plastic container gives great protection to the perfectly sharpened cutting edges.  It is hard to open which is the first indication that strength is required to get a straight hole with a heavy duty hand drill.  Inside, there is the heavy steel tool with superb cutting edges. Examination of the tool shows excellent workmanship.  The thick steel casting is flawlessly sharpened.
I chose this handy tool because I can make a flat bottomed 1 1/2” hole.  Some users may find the 7/16 shank troublesome but that emphasizes the need to use only a heavy duty drill.  The tool is very usable and a great value.Enjoy!Highly recommended.

I used this to recess 64 bolts in southern yellow pine timbers. The slots for chip ejection are too small and it would constantly clog. The workflow was: drill about 3/16", stop and clear the bit, repeat a dozen or more times. Which was a shame as it was trying to make good, nice cuts. I was using a old fashioned, high torque low speed drill. If I really put my weight on it that helped force the chips out but that put a severe load on the drill. Looking at the design the slots could easily be twice as large, it's a shame that a otherwise quality bit is hobbled by this design flaw.It will get the job done, I don't regret buying it, but I really wish it handled soft chips better.

This forstner bit from Greycore comes with the bit, a feed screw and an allen wrench. I ordered the 1-1/2" size to use primarily on the lathe while woodturning, but also occasionally use it on the drill press. The bit hogs out wood quickly and easily.Note: if using this with a drill press, make sure your workpiece is clamped down well. This bit self-feeds, so the stock tends to lift from the table. Or better yet, remove the feed screw, so it will not self-feed (and will also prevent a center hole if not needed). You will not want to use this bit without the feed screw while using a corded or cordless drill as it will wander terribly. This would also make a great bit with a right-angle drill to run plumbing through studs. You can use it with a cordless drill, but it should have a fair amount of torque, and you need to be careful. Ensure the workpiece is secure, or it can spin. This is a beast of a bit and well worth the expense.

If you have a lot of holes to drill and don't want to spend a lot of time doing it this bit is a great choice. It has an aggressive feed screw and it's very sharp. It efficiently clears the wood chips from the hole. It takes a bit of torque to drill with this bit. I used a small Makita drill with a 3Ah battery and it wasn't struggling but if I had hit a knot I would have needed a heftier drill. This is a quality tool.
