Fantastic system. Was not hard to install. I did have a few questions before I attempted install on my own and Tech support Excellent. This system is a fraction of the cost of other systems and has worked perfect for me. My gates are 14ft each and 5ft tall and this system has operated flawlessly opening and closing them. .

I replaced an older gate opener with this unit. A question to product support prior to the purchase was answered promptly and with excellent advice. I already had an exit loop, keypad, radio remotes, solar panels, and batteries installed, so I really only needed the control board and the actuators. It came with solar panels, but I will use them elsewhere. I also didn't need the weatherproof box as I already had an enclosure. The installation instructions were very thorough and easy to read. The one installation/design issue I with they would change is the terminal blocks. The wires are inserted horizontally, and the screws to tighten the wires are on the bottom. If you use their existing box, I have no idea how you would get a screwdriver in there to tighten the wires. This wasn't a big deal for me as I removed the board and mounted it in a larger box. The wires should go on the bottom and the screws should be visible and accessible from the front. The system runs on 24 volts. My existing system was all wired for 12 volts and rather than change the 2 batteries to series from parallel, I picked up a 12v-24v 10A converter, and left all my existing wiring in place. I just needed to wire power, the exit loop, and the O/S/C (keypad, remote) to the board. The actuator are smooth and handle a pretty heavy gate easily. It takes about 18 seconds to open. The adjustments are well labelled and easy to use. Make sure you power down before adjusting (as it says in the manual) or the adjustments may not be recognized. It looks like the firmware checks all the settings at power up.So far (1 week in) I'm very pleased with the system.

We recently installed a gate and quickly grew tired of opening and closing it, so we started researching gate openers. I will have to admit that I bought this one based on the price and the fair reviews it has. We have a double gate and it is about 600 feet away from available electricity so we went with the Topens 5S solar model. Upon opening the box I could tell that the product was of decent quality. I ordered and installed the double gate opener, the included solar panels & charge controller, a wireless keypad and an exit wand, all Topens brand. All of what I received, save the solar panels and charge controller, look like decent quality items. Below are some notes I have to pass along about this system. The Bad:1. It does not come with any wires except those hanging out of the actuators. One could reasonably assume that the opener meant to go across the drive would come with 20 or 30 feet of wire so it could stretch across to the control box, but that is not the case. I ran a 1" PVC conduit (not in the pictures) and had to supply my own wire to power the second actuator.2. The solar set up seems cheap all around. As I mentioned before, there was no wire supplied to hook up the solar panels to the charge controller. The supplied bracket was perfect for the bottom 10W solar panel, but the top bracket didn't hold the top panel well so I built my own support for it. Also, you have to install the solar panels AFTER you mount the bracket which you need child size hands to do. They definitely need to re-engineer the solar mounting brackets.3. The whole control setup and batteries need to be in some kind of an enclosure, but none is provided. I am an electrician and happened to have an empty weatherproof panel can sitting around that worked nicely for it all, but the average person will need to find some kind of weatherproof housing for all these items.4. The control wiring requires several items to be connected to the #11 & #12 terminals and yet there is only one wire connection for each. It's a minor detail that I fixed with some short pieces of wire and wire nuts. Also, you're going to need a REALLY small flat head screwdriver to connect the wires. I think they're 1/32nd inch screw heads.5. Batteries are not included. It says this up front, so it was no surprise, but to complete the system you have to spend an extra $80-120.6. The gate doesn't have a built in stop if it hits something like a garage door does, so it keeps going even if something (like your car) is in the way. I can envision that maybe being an issue in the future and I think perhaps that is what the optional photo-eye is for, but I don't have one at this point. The Good:1. The actuators seem to be of decent quality that will last. They were pretty easy to install and I did it all alone, with no one's help. My gate is mounted on an old electric power pole so the supplied bolts were not long enough and I had to supply my own so I used 6 inch long 3/8" lag bolts. Adjusting the swing was fairly easy as the bracket has several screw openings to choose from and it rotates around about 160° or so.2. The instructions were pretty clear even though they were originally written in Chinese and then translated into English. All of the wiring diagrams were very simplistic and easy to follow (Remember that I am an electrician.)3. Programing the remotes was a breeze. Press one button on the controller, then press the button on the remote twice within 4 seconds and it's ready to go. We have 3 drivers going through the gates so we ordered extra remotes. The instructions say it can be programed for up to 10, which would include the wireless keypad that we installed. (9+1) All of them work from 50-60 feet.4. The batteries they recommend are 12V 12AH but I talked to someone at the battery store and got 12V 18AH so as to have more opens/closes available.5. Setting the limit switch that tells the gate where to stop is pretty easy to do, but the instructions aren't clear about how it works. It's located on the underside of the actuator and requires a Phillips screwdriver to adjust. I was able to play with it a little until I figured out where it needed to be.6. Everything worked for me the very first time I tried it. Nothing failed, nothing jammed. Making sure everything is plumb and level and the gate operating smoothly before installing the opener is key.All in all I'm very happy with this purchase and would definitely recommend it for anyone with a remote, light weight gate.Edit: It's 6 months later and this thing is still going strong. I was initially worried that the puny solar cells wouldn't keep up but I've had zero trouble. Of note: I went back and installed a photo-eye sensor which functioned, but would stop the gate from opening if you break the sensor as well as stop it from closing. The eye we bought was not a Topens product (because they didn't offer one) and rain would obscure the beam causing the gate to not open at all. I finally disabled the thing. In my opinion it should only work during closing, not opening. Other than that we're very happy with the quality and functionality of the gate.

Purchased for about $800, but this now sells for half what we spent- we suspect this is an effort to get rid of some really crappy openers that are overstocked. From day one, nothing worked correctly. Sometimes one side opens, some times both open, sometimes one or both sides partially open...then there are times when it opens correctly and only one side closes. When we tried to use the lock component, the gate would not fully open or fully close! This was installed by a construction professional and we are certain the problems are all with the product. If you need a reliable gate opener to keep your livestock in or trespassers out, stay far, far away from this one. An absolute waste of money and time. If we could give zero stars, we would have.

I purchased the TOPENS AD5S gate system earlier this year, and overall, it has been a great addition to our property. The installation was straightforward, and it worked flawlessly for months. Recently, we encountered a minor issue where one of the gates was not opening fully and then both gates would close halfway through. I reached out to TOPENS customer support, and they were incredibly helpful! After following their suggestions—trimming nearby plants and adjusting the force setting—the problem was completely resolved. Both gates now open and close smoothly again. I really appreciate the prompt and detailed assistance from Julie at TOPENS Customer Support, who guided me through every step.I’m very satisfied with the system’s performance and the exceptional customer service. Highly recommend this product to anyone looking for a reliable gate opener with great after-sales support.

I purchased and installed the AD5S on my front driveway gate ( 2 ) 10 foot sections powder coated aluminum, in 2020 in Alberta Canada. The instructions to install were easy to follow and any support required was a timely response. I had no install questions just a couple follow up with the sync of wireless openers There is a time change but within 24 hours emails to support were responded to with trouble shooting details and suggestions. Recently January 2025 I was trouble shooting my first gate issue wrt opening with out issue. I was away for a period of time and when I returned I had intermittent performance . With Topens online support I was able to use their guidance to trouble shoot what appeared to be an odd issue issue. With their support help I was able to trace it to a low battery not taking a charge and also a wire connection that was not as good as the other when I installed the gate 4 years earlier. All resolved . I recommend these gates in particular if you have lite weight powder coated aluminum gates, as I can't comment on heavier gate options. Great price and has been working well now for 4 Canadian winters. Thumbs up .

This gate opener is more involved to install than what I thought it would be. The instructions were good and easy to follow. The gate opener works well with my two 10ft metal gates.

Likes:Everything came in one package, and all of the parts were there, including the extended arms if "push to open" is the indicated installation requirement. The instructions are very clear and easy to follow, and it's important to follow along as written - don't take shortcuts! For our installation location, all of the supplied component wiring was sufficiently long enough, however I can see the length supplied might be a problem if the solar panel / control box / operating arms can't be installed in close proximity - i.e. on one of the gate support columns or posts. Our gates are dual 7' (total opening14') aluminum installed on 6" x 6" treated wood posts, and we use the "push to open" style.Although other reviews have indicated a problem with the range of the supplied remote controls, the ones supplied with our kit, as well as the two additional ones we purchased operate the gates perfectly well from 300 meters away.Dislikes:While not really a dislike, more a warning / suggestion to the writing of the directions and to installers.....If your "push to open" gates are obstructed in the open position - i.e. can't be opened beyond 110 degrees because of a fixed impediment, its very important to adjust the limit switch "B" before operating the gates for the first time. The adjustment methodology is covered at the very end of the instructions booklet. The adjustment is very easy to do, and you have to guess a little to begin with about the setting's required position until you get it right. If you run the set-up out of the box, upon first operation the gates will try to push beyond immobile objects, and make a bad grinding noise when resistance is met because the auto-reverse limit potentiometer seems to be set at maximum resistance from the factory.I have no idea if the same situation exists with a "pull to open" installation because we don't have that circumstance, but if you have the same possible restriction, I'd adjust the limit switch first.Overall a very good and reliable product for our gate requirements.
