We have a small Koi type pond (without actual fish in it yet) that has been giving me fits with murky water and algae run wild. I was losing the battle of algae and other muck clogging my pump to the point that water barely came out of the fountain. After using algaecide and a mesh bag as a filter with limited results, I decided to give this a try. Setting it up was a breeze - no mechanical parts to wear out or worry about. Just take the top off, remove the course and fine sponges, drop in the pump, put the sponges back in and you're ready to go. I also purchased a submersible UV light which I put in the filter box under the sponges to zap algae. After a few of days during which I hosed down the outside of the filter box and the sponges, which were coated with green muck once or twice a day, and another dose of algaecide, the algae is all gone, and the pond water is super clear. Need to be patient for the first few days as the filter sucks all the crap out of the water and traps it, but after that it's low maintenance and only requires a hosing every 4-5 days to a week. I am so happy I took a chance on this and highly recommend it

You can buy replacement filters but we usually wash ours and reuse. Last box was at least 10 - possibly 15 years old and it cracked so we ordered another. Does a great job of filtering out dirt and excess food, etc. Can be easily cleaned (as long as you don't let it go too long) with a garden hose.

We have 3 garden ponds and use solar powered submersible pumps to operate waterfalls and bamboo spouts on them. This kind of filter box helps prevent clogging with the pumps and overall I like it. It is very cumbersome when wet, full of algae and needing cleaned to pull out, clean and put back. I continue to use the three I have but have switched to a mesh bag on new pumps which also work well but are much easier to clean. So I recommend it with the hesitation that it is a bit more complicated to use than a mesh bag.

We bought a house 7 years ago that had an in ground pool and a hot tub. We waiting 'till we had the money to fix the pool which was this year. Both the pool and the hot tub were not working for about 11 years. So with the price of fixing up the pool and the maintenance cost for years to come the hot tub went by the wayside and we decided to turn it into a fish pond. I was reluctant but with a little thought and hard work we got a pretty cool looking pond. We raised the bottom of the tub with sand and bought a pond liner and put a nice wood border around the brick border that was already there. The liner the pump some fake logs a few real lily pads some fake lily pads and about 15 goldfish this pond project turned out looking way better than I expected. So after a few weeks the pond started looking pretty nasty with algae. After some research and understanding that the pond needs to have some kind of filtration to keep the water clean just like the pool has a filter to keep it clean I bought the TotalPond filter box. After putting the box in the pond within a few hours of running I could immediately see a difference of the clarity of the water. For a little less than a week now I have been cleaning out the box and filter daily. I'm guessing that the pond is about 2 to 3 hundred gallons I have a 5 hundred gpm pump. After each time I clean the filter and box I prime the box with clean water. The only trouble that I've had was the box wanted to float the first day so I put a few rocks in the bottom of the box along with the bioballs and it has no trouble staying at the bottom and doesn't show any signs of loosing water flow or starving or clogging the pump. Needless to say I'm sure that you could by more expensive filters but for the money this is a perfect purchase for a small pond. To give you an idea on how bad the water was, before the filter you could hardly see the fake logs at the bottom and when we fed the fish you could hardly see them swim. After installing the filter you can see the logs and the fish and I'm sure that the fish are much happier swimming in cleaner water. So a project well worth it and not to terrible hard or expensive and we have a little oasis for our pet fish:)

I had my pond pump in a mesh bag, but it was still constantly getting clogged up and not working right. I would constantly have to blow out the lines and take it out to clean off the bag.No more!! This thing is going to save me so much hassle. Now the water will get filtered through this box before the pump pushes it to the next filter and then to the water feature.Works great so far.

Install: 5-10 minutesPros:Clean and clear waterWorks with almost all small pond pumpsEasy installCons:NoneLong review: I built a small backyard pond off of our pergola to put fish in and relax by with my wife. The pond was great and the pump worked great for the waterfall when it was clean. As soon as any leaf or debris got in my pond the side suction pulled it in and I’d have to kneel down pull up the pump and clean it. This was almost DAILY. In addition the water was so murky I could hardly see 4/5 inches into the water and never saw any fish.. I did my research and landed on this economical option. After 6 hours I could already start to see The water becoming more clear. I’m writing this review after only about 20 hours of constant use. I never though I’d be able to see to the bottom of my pond. I can now.Bottom line: 10/10 recommend this for your pond.

I have a small backyard pond. I had a skimmer that I made and just didn't work the way I wanted, so I got this. I have small sized pump that technically meets the dimensions, but, the hose and filters make it so the lid does not fit properly anymore. I do not plan on keeping this long term because now the hose sticks straight up and cannot be hidden.I wish it was taller by an inchI wish there were punch outs to allow the owner to choose the best place to have the hose exit.I wish I knew what the balls are for.

This was perfect for what we needed! We had bought a pump for our koi pond, but got it home and set up and it didn’t have a filter! So we got this, you sit the pump down in this box and the filters that come with the box work great!!

I liked the concept of augmenting filtration before water is drawn into pump. Sensible design and my pond is now quite clean (did some mucking out beforehand so that helped too) and is hosting a frog and attracting birds. Happy with it.
