As we all know, praying mantis always likes to climb onto wall or ceiling and hang there to ambush the prey. Our previous homemade container is a plastic bottle, and it is very slippery for mantis to climb or hang. Lots of time when she prepared to ambush and started to dangling, she fell to the ground, which makes my daughter so frustrated. But this meshed container is much much better, after my daughter relocated the mantis, she quickly climbed to the ceiling, no effort needed, and now she is staying there securely and happily.

Perfect size for bugs. My daughter has had a pet caterpillar in this house for three months. He is doing very well and thriving.

My little clicked on the buy this now button as she really really wanted this! As I'm all about anything that is educational AND gets a kid outside I let the order stand.Well, it has been home to butterflits, moths, grasshoppers, toads and most recently.. a chipmunk!Needless to say, the chipmunk was the final inhabitant, as sometime during the night he chewed a hole in the mesh and escaped..Luckily hubs had taken the critter case out of her bedroom and put it on the front porch.. so Mr Chipmunk escaped into total freedom and not into house. This is good for the bugs, toad, frogs etc.. but if your little catches a chipmunk... just say no...

My kids love catching ladybugs so I found these on Amazon and bought two of them. I had mixed feelings before purchasing because of the reviews about the netting, but we've had them for two weeks and no tears on the netting. My kids have even dropped these things on the cement walkway and they've still held up. Yes, the netting is a little flimsy and I'm sure that over time, it will have to be replaced, but that's not a big deal. It screws together at the bottom so you can unscrew it, replace the netting with screen door mesh that you can buy at any hardware store and BINGO, its fixed. These keep my kids entertained almost all day with the bugs so it was worth every penny.

Great product for a 5 year old boy. This is one of the nicer products on the market and looks to be more durable. Will try and update after it has been used this summer.

First of all, this was super cute, my little boy loved it when he first got it and he was sad to see it go when it finally ripped eight years later. It isn’t great for very small insects or spiders but it works great otherwise. And lasted us a long time and served two different kids. I guess little brother got the short end of the stick lol.

I know this looks like a toy but I bought it for myself. We just got some property and I wanted to know what kind of moths/butterflies these caterpillars would grow into. So I found this bug catcher online and it worked great! The caterpillar I found made a lovely cocoon in there and we are waiting for it to come out now. We also have Oak Galls and next Spring I plan on finding a fallen green one and putting that in there. When the kids come up I will use it to put in the grasshoppers they find or other critters and then we will let them go by the pond. I have had more fun with this myself already! It is well built. The only thing I would suggest is that if you are looking for a very scientific container, this one has a door that just slides to the right or left and it does not seal, so ants and such could escape easily-they could also get in too if you are not careful where you put it.
