I like this product, I think the construction is excellent, and I don't worry this will snap, break, or come off in transit or under heavy use. However, the install is very easy and there is no locking key or bolt to prevent a theft in an area where someone needs a spare. Anyone with a wrench could easily remove this and your tire from your vehicle in an unsupervised parking spot with the right amount of time. I would take that into consideration when purchasing.

I got this to mount a spare on my big utility trailer. It mounted up nicely and holds my spare rigidly. Like any product like this, I'm not sure how long the finish will last, but with an annual dose of black spray paint, I expect it to last basically forever. I would recommend this to others.

I've been looking for something like this. This is much more secure and convenient than taking the spare from the garage and putting it in the back of the trailer every time I use it!The steel is heavy gauge, and the powder coat finish is nice. The bolts are long enough to go around my frame, no problem. This is a universal bolt pattern tire carrier, so the bolts slide around. This a bit annoying when putting the tire on.I WAS going to tack weld the heads so they don't move.Alternately, you could put another nut (part K) on the tire side of the metal plate to hold the carriage bolt in place permanently. But then I thought of how many times I have used that spare in over 10 years.Well, it’s zero. You need a spare JIC, not all the time.It doesn't have to be super convenient to bolt the spare on, since I'll probably never have to deal with sliding bolts ever again once the tire is on there. LOL.The only thing I would like to improve is the bolts. Perhaps the carriage bolts could be up-sized to the same size as the trailer lug nuts (so the tire iron fits), and a thicker lock installed.

This is a very solidly made item. The metal is thick and the welds are well done. It has some heft to it that should be able to hold most standard utility trailer wheels without issue.I was able to install it onto my trailer with minimal effort and there are a few different orientations that you can choose to mount it.The main thing I worry about though is that the power coated finish is not great. It has already started chipping away just from installing it. I'll probably end up needing to repaint it at some point. An odd thing about my kit is that one of the 4 mounting bolts was different than the other 3. It looked to be made of a different metal and it is about 1 cm shorter than the others. In the end it didn't matter for me because the thread was the same and it was still plenty long, but it could have been an issue for some people. The nuts are vinyl lock nuts and the mounting hardware includes washers and split lock washers. However, the silliness begins when it comes to the lug nuts for attaching the spare wheel. They are designed to be held in place by the wheel itself. Meaning you put the bolt through, then the wheel, then the nut. That poses a problem for when you actually need to use the wheel. The nut isn't a standard wheel lug nut, so you need to keep a wrench (not a tire iron) around if you ever want to get the wheel off. And if you have a situation where you don't put the spare wheel on the mount, then you need to tighten it all the way down or else they will rattle.A better solution would have been to attach the lugs separately, including with the nut on. Then have enough length left to mount the wheel and a lug nut. I think I can figure out a way to make that happen though.Overall, this is a really good unit and gives options for mounting a spare tire if you didn't have any good ones.

This is a solidly built spare tire mount that is designed for multiple mounting options. The materials loo and feel strong and there welds are clean and no obvious issues or defects were noted. The design is such that there are multiple mounting holes in the mount plates which allows for mounting it on different trailer tubing sizes and in multiple ways. Due to the design of my trailer and the SxS I pull on it I opted to mount mine on the tongue of the trailer and it works perfectly there. This can just as easily be mounted on the side wall, floor, etc. The included combination lock is a good idea but it is flimsy and easily broken if someone were so inclined. That said, once the mount is installed and the tire mounted (all hardware included) it is a clean look, works well and feels very strong. I would recommend it.

The overall structure of this is ok and well suited for 12 to 14" trailer tires (possibly 15" but I didn't have one to try) The bolts and fasteners chosen for the wheel studs is poor at best. At the very least it should have been designed to have speed nuts to hold the bolts in place when the wheel is not present. Mounting the wheel with 3 loose bolts is a trick to say the least. Most utility trailer hubs in the 1000lb to 3000lb rating will have wheel studs that use a 1/2" - 20 stud and nut and the nuts are chamfered to seat in the rim. It would have been ideal if this carrier had the same thread pattern so than the same nuts could be used. As it stands I would need a 2nd wrench/socket that is different from the wheels on my trailer to change a tire on the side of the road.I have some extra wheel studs and nuts and will weld 3 studs into the appropriate holes on this carrier to serve my needs. Another partial fix if you don't want to go as far as welding is to look for a set of carriage bolts in a matching thread to your wheel studs and install some speed nuts. You may need to locate a carriage bolt with a shallow head as the carriers steel is not thick enough for the carriage bolt head to be flush with the side where the wheel mounts therefore the speed nut won't tighten up enough.
