I wasn't sure how a cheap ant farm would work, but I was very happy with what I got, and it was worth the price. Comes with the plastic case and the white sandy material for the ants. You take off the entire top part, add the sand packets to the bottom, then add 1/4 cup of water evenly to that, then add ants. (you can mail order them or get them out of your back yard). We opted to get them out of the backyard. The stick they included to help get ants into the enclosure was pretty useless. It was actually kind of hard to wrangle ants and get them in the small hole. We managed to catch 9. Did you know when ants feel like they are being wrangled up they get really fast? We got 9 black ants (fairly large ones). Tried getting them from the same location hoping they would all be from the same colony. Not sure if that matters though. They didn't do much for the first bit. I put in a cotton ball soaked in water and some sugar (but the directions say add fruit or bread, and only a couple drops of water). They love the sugar, didn't touch the bread. They began digging after a day. Making little tunnels and stuff. I learned from YouTube that without a queen these 9 ants will die in about 3 weeks no matter how well we care for them. The "door" at the top is pretty small, and it's secure. Ants can not get out unless someone leaves the door open. It's been hours of fun to watch. I catch myself just staring at it because it is interesting to watch the ants work, although this was purchased for my 5 year old's amusement.I have been wondering if we can reuse the enclosure again after the ants expire, or if I need to just get a new one. They aren't that expensive, but it seems like a waste to just throw it out.

We bought this for homeschooling. It was great to see the ants and be able to observe what they do. I'm a bit bummed cuz some of the ants were dead already when they arrived. Because several were still alive we didn't try to return or get a rebate or anything. My biggest issue with the set is the tubing. Yes it stuck on well enough that no ants escaped. BUT we wanted a loop for the ants to crawl through. When we left it all together the loop was Giant and obnoxious. When we cut it in half, the loop caused the tubing to kink and the ants couldn't travel through, making the loop useless. If we do it again, I would definitely buy another farm to connect them and see them travel better.

Yes, there are no ants as many reviews have said. You can order the ants or find some in your background. This is nostalgic and brings back many memories since these were popular a while back. It lasts for about a month before the ants die and eat everywhere. You end up throwing it away. It's a one-time use for the price, but the kids get to learn so pick your poison.

I don't know much about Uncle Milton, but Grandson Kefa loves his ant farm! Keeps it in his bedroom and is fascinated by the ants. No problems with it at all...five stars!

PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS NON-RETURNABLE PRODUCT1. The “sand†they put in is much too light. It’s almost like styrofoam bits with how light and clingy it is. It clung to the ants and was so loose that anytime they tried digging, it would just collapse back onto them.2. The entrance is much too small to do anything with it. I’ve been having to just take off the whole lid to feed and water them.3. The tube they give you to connect holes is completely useless without another farm. If you try just looping it around to another hole in the ant farm, it’s too small so it folds on itself and the ants can’t get through4. The plastic lids for the holes are too loose. I left my house over the weekend and when I got back, I noticed that the little lid had fallen out. I guess the ants noticed it too because they built a little hill to the whole and ESCAPED. ALL OF THEM ESCAPED!!! Keep in mind these are the red poisonous harvester ants! And since then I’ve been finding these suckers around my room! I even found one near my bed. Needless to say, burning my whole house down was not worth it for this farm T^T (that last part was a joke, I didn’t burn my house down. Still, don’t buy this)

Orders this for my wife's kindergarten class. From what she tells my the kids live looking at the hard working ants. Wish they had an option to buy ants but I guess it would be difficult ship live ants. The kids just looked and collected the from the school yard. Overall would purchase again

I hope this will expand his knowledge and interest. Just not sure where we are going to find ants at this time of year.

I didn’t even end up opening this product because apparently there is a coupon or something for live ants inside but they only ship within the United States. I was lost before I even got started with this thing so I ended up passing it along to someone else. I was hoping for an easy set that I could just request ants for and be good to go. It was a lot more involved than that here in Canada and I didn’t see anything about those ants only being available in the US before ordering. It was disappointing for our family.
