I used this adapter on a desktop computer that has a failed audio out port. Just plug the speaker cable into the adapter and then plug it into a USB port. The speakers work great now. Can be used on desktops or laptops.

It unfortunately didnt pick up my karaoke mic input and so i ll have to return it.Audio output worked fine and didnt have any issues.

This does work somewhat Like an external sound card BUT mine had issues with the plugin for the 3.5mm pins. It seemed to have trouble getting the right fit and making good contact the rings on the pins. Just wanted to make you aware of the problems I had.
