Information
Taps can be divided into straight flute thread taps, spiral flute thread taps, spiral point thread taps and thread forming taps. They are also divided into hand taps and machine taps according to the usage. Hand taps are operated by tap wrenches. Machine taps are suggested to be used with tap collets with overload protection. Recommended feed rate: General steel: 6-15m/min; harder steel: 5-10m/min; stainless steel: 2-7m/min; cast iron: 8-10m/min.

Worked well for taping a hole through a 1/4 steel rod. If it is set up correctly it will work well. The hole has to be the correct size and the tap has to be started perfectly straight otherwise it may break. It is a small tap size so I used a small drill chuck to hold the tap and was able to feed by hand. Back out after each 1/8 of a turn to clear the debris. Do it correctly and it will work, do it wrong and the tap may break. No issues and the 2-56 screw fit well.

I’m a machinist by trade. I’ve tapped thousands of holes so I know what I’m doing. I broke all 3 of these taps in a row in aluminum. Scrapped all 3 parts. Could be bad luck, could be subpar taps, could be I should have stuck with 2 flute taps that I normally use.

They are brittle. I broke all three tapping holes in some 1/8†mild steel. It did get me out of a bind, and shipping was fast.
