I got this tester because I got tired of borrowing my friends professional test instrument. Out of curiosity I tested both of these head-to-head in about the same area of land with three separate 3 inches of separation and both gave about the same reading. I can’t complain with the results.

TLDR Pros: High Precision, 16' leads and ground spikes included, lead covers Cons: Direction clarity, lead clampsThis is a complete ground resistance test kit including: resistance tester, tester cover plate, 8 AA batteries, tester shoulder strap, 2 x 3' tester leads, 3 x 16' test leads on individual spools, 2 x metal ground spikes and carrying case. I thought this would be more like a Digital Multi Meter, it's not. It is a specialized ground resistance tester for measuring resistance through the earth for outdoor electrical projects like solar or lighting ground rods. It will measure the electrical resistance of anything very precisely-the short leads are great for this--but the long leads, ground spikes, and multiple test points were designed for earth-ground resistance tests (see picture of use diagram from instructions). Presumably if you are thinking about getting this you already know what this is for and how you would use it. The instructions are a little hard to follow and I'm not sure they would suffice to tell some with no experience how to perform the measurement. It takes 8 AA batteries which are included. The test leads come in two lengths including a 3 foot length for testing small local parts and 16' cables for performing a distributed ground resistance test. The long leads come on their own winding spools which I love; keeps the cords neat and untangled. All the leads come with protective plastic caps for the leads. When working with very low resistance measurements it is imperative that terminal connections are clean and rust/tarnish free as even a small amount can lead to several ohms of resistance. The meter has a convenient press-and-hold measurement button but it doesn't do continuous testing (probably to save on batter life) like other resistance testers I've used. It will measure from kOhms to 10's of milliohms. Note, the max scale is 2000 ohms so it won't measure mega ohm resistances. I am very curious how accurate it is. I have no reason not to believe it, but I know that even 1 ohm is a very small resistance. To be able to measure to hundredths of ohms is quite a feat and just makes me wonder about absolute accuracy. It also comes with 2 heavy-duty metal ground spikes for sampling earth resistance. These are ~1/4" diameter spikes that are very robust. All the equipment fits easily into the supplied carrying case which is internally subdivided to keep things organized and easily accessible. My only complaint is that the clamping jaws on the leads feel a little cheap; they are a little hard to open and don't open quite as much as I would like. But all-in-all, a very good value.

This tester feels durable. It comes with a plastic cover that is removed to access all of the buttons and switches. The cover seems like it will help keep the dust out. The plastic shell of the device definitely feels like it can take a beating.The set includes a nylon case which is actually of impressive quality. It feels very thick and the straps and zippers both feel secure. This case is definitely a step up from many other free cases I have received. I was surprised just how neatly the device and all of its accessories fit. I also really like that the case has a shoulder strap.The leads are all very thick and appear to be of great quality. It was also really nice to see the leads are very long. The alligator clips are strong and the banana plugs fit tightly and hold very well into each jack. Each individual test lead comes with a clip to wrap it up for storage.I tested this devices accuracy with some precison resistors that I had on hand. Everything seemed to be within the stated 2% tolerance. All of my readings ended up being very close toreadings I got from multiple other multimeters.Overall, this is a good ground resistance tester. You will not find another with this many features at this price point .

To be honest, I didn’t even know this type of test existed until my grandpa, who is building our family vacation site on a large property in a bit remote area, showed me the one his construction team was using to ensure the electrical system was stable and met safety standards.Coincidentally (or not—since Alexa and Google seem to know everything I do, and their targeted ads can be a bit scary), this tester popped up on my recommended page. Out of curiosity, I decided to get one so I could show it to my grandpa and try measuring the grounding system’s resistance again. Even though it had already been tested by the professionals, I figured one more check couldn’t hurt!It felt a bit like a science project from elementary school. I’m happy to report that this little gadget worked just as well as the one the construction team was using, so I can say it’s quite accurate in that the reading from this tester was very close to the readings from the existing tester the professional team has been using.
