pros: well built, wiring staying cool so good connections and low resistance.cons: i prefer solid single wire over strandedover all its a good unit well built for my purposes. i have a large ups for power outages and the fan stays on so i wanted it outside in the garage while feeding to the outlets in the living room with the ability to bypass the ups if i ever needed or wanted to. as well as ability to replace ups as power source with a generator ran in garage and vented outside

We picked this up so that we could easily switch the power to our yurt from the mains power to a solar setup that I'm working on. Having a single switch to go back and forth is great. The needs in the yurt are pretty modest, so a 20A circuit is plenty. It I can also switch the plug to a generator if both the main power is out and the solar setup is under revision. It's weatherproof, but I still mounted it under the edge of the yurt platform for extra protection, especially when something's plugged in. 3 mounting holes on the back made it nice and secure. Wiring it up was simple, I just broke the line feeding the yurt outlets and connected them inside the box. At that point I was back to working just like before with the switch in the normal position. The cover was easy to remove, and there was plenty of room inside to hook things up. Now, I have a great way to test. I just plug in my inverter, and see if the light comes on. I haven't had a need for the reset switch, and don't feel that intentionally tripping it is a good idea, but it's there. There is a middle position if you don't want any power going downstream, but I'll still unplug the inverter and shut off the breaker in the panel for safety anyway. The box is solidly built and should stand up to some abuse (though it's in a protected place anyway). It comes with an extra plug in case you need it, I put it inside the box with the wires so I don't lose it.

So far the transfer switch seems well made. It is working as expected. The instructions are bad though. As shown in the attached picture, it instructs you to connect you hot wires from your main breaker and to the neutral wires of the transfer switch. Then to connect the neutral wire from transfer switch to hot wire to your load. Showed this to my electrician friend and he said the instructions seem to be mislabled. If followed, the hot and neutral from the generator would be backwards. However, the wires were labelled and made it is to correctly make proper connections. Took 2 stars off for the instructions issue.

Initial impressions reviews. It will be awhile before before I can install. The box and everything about it is heavy duty. This is so you can hook a generator up to a circuit run line in your home.Say a room or a fridge or furnace blower. It's 20 amp and most home circuits are 15, they use different wires gauge 12&14 and are supposed to use different sockets as well. My generator is 20 amp 2,000 watt so it's perfect for this but the room I'm planning on using it with isn't. It's the standard 15 Amp. So I'll need to figure something out.I've read several reviews that installed this or ones very similar to it and they installed to the breaker poles and terminals inside the box main. I'm going to double check but I think it should be OK the install at the beginning of the run before anything else.Like how it has a neutral position and a light that comes on if it's getting electricity.Instructions show screw terminals but its really got spades instead. Also think the schematics are now off.Anyways its got wires attached to them and all of them are labeled. I'm sure you won't use any of them but at least you'll know whats going on and be sure to bring large crimps.Don't think that's the 20 amp plug on most generators, seems like most these days use a circular twist on. I know It's not the for mine so you'll likely also need to make your own cable or search for awhile to find one that'll work. Will update with five stars if it works!!

The Veepeak Manual Generator Transfer switch is rated at 20 Amps, meaning that it is good for use with smaller generators that only output 110v and not 220v like my portable Honda 2000W inverter generator. I have my generator located in the garage and connected to my house via an underground line. I wanted to add a manual transfer switch to the garage side so that I could activate it in the garage prior to going down to the basement of the house to transfer the load on to the generator. This seemed like the perfect thing. On opening up the switch, everything seems to be pretty well built. The enclosure is of a decently thick gauge of metal and the plug, fuse, switch and light seem pretty well made. The included instructions were ok and gave enough information to get the job done.

In addition to misleading the public this unit has never been tested as a transfer switch. No UL or CSA 1008 for transfer switches. In order to sell in the USA or Canada the unit must be tested and the company would be getting quarterly inspections at their plant.

I got this to easily switch over to my generator during outages. My initial impression was that it felt heavy and solid, so I assumed it was well made and of good quality. Installation seemed easy enough, and this would have definitely made my life easier as we're subject to power outages and winter storms. However, as I was preparing to install it, it slipped out of my hand and broke into several pieces, including the switch, which actually just snapped. It felt well made, it looked like a quality item, and it probably would have worked well, but I guess I'll never know. Handle item with care. Great price, by the way. They're usually a lot more expensive.
