Amazing deal. The quality is great, never had any issue with any of these tools. Geometry is good, the heat treats good, the carbide cuts everything you can throw at it. Anybody that has any type of issues after buying this tool, before you go riding and ignorant review, just remember, are you smarter than a tool? You're probably doing something wrong if you're having issues or you have a junk machine

I would have given this a 5 start but the packaging was confusing. The boring bars are packaged in a box that is for lathe tools. I contacted the seller and we were able to easily sort this out. The seller was extremely responsive and I will deal with him in the future. There are three boring bars. I have used the small one on five projects so far. It is strong and works well. Installing the carbide insert is easy but I would recommend strongly that you keep the grub screw on the driver as it is small and easily dropped. The inserts seem to be well made and cut easily.

For many years I've used 1/2" TCMT insert tools on smaller lathes from 10" to 13" and workpieces that were smaller than 2" OD. They were just OK but I needed something that had a smaller nose radius to make tight inside corners and was hoping for a better finish on whatever type of steel I had available at the time. Someone had recommend that I use a smaller nose radius tool to achieve my goals. The first thing I did with these tools was to make an adapter to put the boring bar in a QCTP holder that had a 3/4" bore. I used a scrap 4041 steel rifle barrel blank. At a speed much slower than expected I got a beautiful finish. At 720 rpm, a feed rate of .003" and a DOC of .010 I got a beautiful finish. That's a much lower feed and speed than the calculators recommend so even older lathes like the ubiquitous South Bend and Craftsman lathes can get a great finish without needing speeds beyond their capabilities.

Well made, inserts are better than I expected, work well in mild steel, and stainless at low speed with coolant.wish shanks were 1/2" but new what I was getting

I really like indexable tooling because I get nice sharp tool edges with a quick tool but change. These guys are just the ticket but if you are boring a lot of material I would suggest a beefier tool, or finish using light cuts with this set. Chatter and deflection were present when I pushed some deeper cuts.

Lathe bits work well in my 9" Montgomery Ward Lathe. I have machined mild steel and some harder alloys. Bits are easily changed. Bits also work well and last a long time.

After using the tools on a job the other day they certainly don’t seem bad for the money.
