This is a handy, rugged anemometer by Inspeed. We make them. Used by CNN in the US Gulf Region for hurricane coverage. Uses a Cateye bicycle speedometer for display - shows current speed and also captures MAX and AVERAGE. Great for all kinds of wind-related outdoor activities.

We live in the Caribbean up in the mountains so during hurricane season we wanted something to measure the wind speeds up in our area since they can be much higher then recorded at the airport down at sea level. The item is simple without a lot of bells and whistles which is what we were looking for since our climate is always so harsh on electronics. It gives you avg speed, max speed, and temperature and allows you to reset the data when needed. Had an opportunity to use it yesterday as TS Maria's outer bands were passing over the island. I appreciate that it is weather proof and it worked well in allowing us to monitor wind speeds.

The product worked for awhile. It no longer displays.I assume this is because the battery no longer works. It does not come with instructions to troubleshoot or replace the battery.

The Inspeed Vortex wind meter works great! In fact, I recorded a 40 mph gust just three days after it arrived, and it arrived well in advance of the estimated shipping date! With this type of meter, the rotors on the top eliminate the need to orient the meter with the wind direction, unlike the ones with impellers on them (not to say that the impeller ones don't work, they also work well). Only nitpick is no temp, although I've found that I don't use the feature as much. Other than that, I'd recommend this to anyone who likes to measure strong winds, especially those who tire of checking the weather channels to find out how bad the wind really is. Since many observations are taken at airports, a few miles difference can really throw people off, which is another reason I'd recommend this product.

As much as anything, I am impressed with the ingenuity of these folks. The unit is simple and well built. I did not pay much attention to the stated 5 mph 'minimum' startup speed. As it turns out, very low wind speeds are far more important to my project than I realize. What I/you can do to help the unit respond to a reasonably constant (for a couple of minutes at least) is to help the unit to start by blowing into the cups to get the unit to begin turning. If the wind lasts long enough you will likely get a reading. The lowest I have seen is 1.9 mph. I am not suggesting that this is spot-on accurate, but it seems to be able to provide me a repeatable benchmark. Pretty clever folks....

I ordered this handheld anemometer for my bf who teaches college meteorology. He wanted a 3 cup anemometer to demonstrate for his classes. This was exactly what he wanted, he says it works great for his purposes, and he can also check wind speeds at home. The price was good, the workmanship of the product is excellent. Delivery time was also excellent, I was told it could arrive as late as Dec 29, but it actually arrived before Christmas, Dec 22 or 23, so from order to home delivery was a very short turn around.

I bought this for kitesurfing. I use it to determine what size kite to rig up and it's accurate within 1mph of the other two guys (who both use different meters) at the beach. It folds sideways and goes in my bag super easy and it's nice to not have to point the device directly into the wind to get an accurate reading. I leave it up on a PVC pole so I can get an average throughout the day.Excellent product!

I was looking for this type of wind gauge to use when we are flying (RC) at our flying field.Very nice and compact, you don't need to face the wind when checking the wind speeds.Cannot find it locally.Mahalo.
