I got this to add sound to the Raspberry pi 400 that my granddaughter uses when she visits. Pi 400s and Pi 5s don't have a 3.5mm audio output but do provide sound via HDMI. I just plugged this in line with the HDMI cable and into a USB port for power, then plugged in some powered computer speakers. It worked first try! It came with all the cables I needed. Now she can have YouTube with sound!

The setup was pretty easy, at first my Mac did not like the video output, it only showed HD. I was getting a bit upset. I went back and reconnected the box to my setup, I used a better HDMI cable and it seemed to have been the trick. Now the output video is 4K at 60hz and I was able to connect a soundbar w. subwoofer to my Mac.

I have a really good set of computer speakers with a subwoofer, and I wanted the sound from my Blu-ray player to go through them instead of the HDMI, but it doesn’t have RCA jacks, just the hdmi port. The converter does come with its own HDMI cable because you do need two, but not a separate aux cable! I plugged this in, plugged in the USB cable into a power source because it does need to be powered, and then plugged it into the aux port on my speakers, and the sound was great and matched perfectly with the video. keep in mind if you’re not using RCA jacks, you need your own aux cable because it doesn’t come with a separate two sided 3.5 mm jack cord!

I got it to have an alternative to google chromecast audio that may soon to start disappearing, even in used form. This extractor works, but it outputs volume at about 65%. It is not just means lower volume - it also means lower dynamic range of audio. What is puzzling is the fact of even digital output is lower, so it means it is messing with the original digital audio data.

Setup was a snap, no problems at all passing DTS or Dolby Digital to my receiver over the optical connector. No lag, dropouts, and passes CEC through to the TV from my PS4 with no problems. I hooked up the usb power like the instructions say to do and have had 0 issues.

I just wanted to get audio from my Blu Ray player out through my old Sony amp to my legacy speakers. I didn't understand a lot of the language in the reviews here, and Amazon cautioned that this item has a high return rate, but it's cheap so I took a chance. It works. HDMI audio out from Blu Ray in to this device, 3.5mm out to RCA jacks audio in on my amp. It works. And as some others have noted here, no power source is necessary. It appears to draw power from the Blu Ray Player. My only complaint - and it is a minor one - is that volume is lower than it is from other sources into my amp. But sound quality is good, though I'm far from being an audiophile. I recommend this product.

Did not work. I try all the settings on the Hisense tv and the instructions in the product box. Just didn’t work. I taught it was easier to hook up.

Perfect. Good quality product and easy to work with. Almost plug and play for both video and optical audio. No interference with video or audio.
