I really expected this to work more like any other HDMI monitor, since it plugs into the HDMI port, having to install drivers is a major problem. I dont know why they cant just add a chip that can decode raw HDMI signals, since the display is literally made for this device, seems like it should be plug and play.It was a hassle setting up the drivers and editing config.txt and even after all that, it only works in my Rasbian system, spent over an hour tinkering to get the touch screen to work properly, it was going up when i dragged down and right when i dragged left.Going into HDMI mode and back into LCD-4, and running the calibration several times, straightened it out. Then I spent another hour trying to get it to work on RetroPie with no success.I am giving this screen 5 stars, because this is not my first display from this manufacturer, previously 3.5" 480x320, had the same issues, even though it was GPIO only, was hoping that going the HDMI route would be better, but it was nearly the same process to get working.I cut the mount tabs off my display so that its flush, using clippers and a file to make the edges smooth. One benefit is that I can see the boot sequence now, unlike the GPIO only one. But not being able to use it in every OS is a really issue. The screen is good quality, good angles and the resolution is perfect for this size display. If you have the 3.5" 480x320, this screen is about the same height, just a little longer. See pictures for the overhang, its not bad.If they could get this to work with a standard HDMI signal it would be perfect, but since its the best out there as far as I can find, it deserves 5 stars.

This screen is a great price, great resolution, easy setup, and a fantastic viewing angle. Vastly superior to the 3.5" GPIO only version and totally worth the extra money for sure. (I have purchased both.)I find it comical when people complain about this not working out of the box. This thing is not a TV, no matter how much you think it should be because it happens to have HDMI input. The process of getting this thing working on a Raspberry Pi is well documented in the box (see the LCD Quick Start sheet) and takes about 1 minute to accomplish. Unlike screens that exclusively connect through the GPIO pins, because this one uses HDMI for input, you get the benefits of full acceleration by the GPU. That makes it work perfectly for emulation. To help those trying to use this screen...There appears to be a typo in the instructions. The line that reads:hdmi_cvt 480 800 60 6 0 0 0is missing an equals in the place of the first space and should read like this instead:hdmi_cvt=480 800 60 6 0 0 0If you are mounting this screen directly to your Raspberry Pi, you do NOT need to purchase a separate HDMI cable as it comes with a small loop back board that serves this purpose. You also do not need to power it separately (it takes power from the GPIO pins) but you need to make sure you have a powerful enough power source or you may find that you see the lightning bolt symbol a lot because the screen is starving the Pi for power.

Device comes with minimal instruction in the box. Although, there is plenty of setup info on the product wiki page plus several really good YouTube videos how to connect it. I used provided Raspberry Pi Linux image with installed drivers for the touch screen and it worked like a charm. I think that 4 inch screen is a little too small for my old eyes, so I will get a bigger screen.

It's okay, but not great. there is a big vertical blank section on the right of the screen which looks to be a defect in the manufacturing. Still it does the job for now though I have not been successful in calibrating the touch screen.

It lights up and makes a picture like it is supposed to. Looks good too. Didn't bother to get the touch working.

This screen display does not work out-of-the-box with Raspberry-pi 3. Additional driver file have to be added to and configuration modifications have to be made to the OS in order for it to work correctly. This is in reference to the display only, not the touch screen. The Raspberry pi 3 was connected to computer monitors and TVs and worked correctly by just plugging in the HDMI connector. Where as, connecting this screen to the Raspberry pi 3 resulted in the virtual display being folded over on itself several times. While modifying the OS will solve this problem, it does not make sense having to fix a learning tool before you can start learning from it.

**WARNING if you want to use your SPI port with it**The instructions in box for using touch screen prevent Pi from being able to use Spidev, spent hours learning hard waydtoverlay=ads7846,cs=1,penirq=25,penirq_pull=2,speed=50000,keep_vref_on=0,swapxy=0,pmax=255,xohms=150,xmin=200,xmax=3900,ymin=200,ymax=3900^ This will block you from using SPI on your Pi, so don't add to config.txt if you are trying to use SPI as well

Excellent bit of kit. I bought a similar screen before this one, to connect to my PC as a second screen (without rasberry pi) but it wouln'd get detected no matter what I did. With this one however, all you need to do is plug in a hdmi and micro usb cable and you're set! Touchscreen feature doesn't seem to work with windows 10, but that's not what I wanted it for. I'm planning to put this into my gaming computer case now as a monitoring screen. Just need some slim cables now to make it all neat and tidy! It's a similar size to an SSD, convenient because I have an SSD mount showing in my case which I can mount it on.
