Works great, hard to find anything to complain about except the minor complaint that these days I would like to see usb-c on devices instead of usb-b. Solid gateway.

This is a 4 channel USB-to-RS485 converter that would be perfect for setting up a gateway between a computer and multiple networks of industrial devices. At its core, this adapter is built around a 4-channel WCH chip, one of the more reliable vendors of USB-to-Serial devices; it enumerates as VID 0x1a86 and PID 0x55d5, which is a CH344.I really appreciate the switchable 120 ohm termination resistors onboard, which prevents you from needing to source those and wire them up manually, while allowing you to use this to inspect the middle of a bus if you want to use it that way as well. I also like that the terminal blocks are two removable pieces, so you can remove them to work on wiring. (Port 1 and 2 share a block, and port 3 and 4 share a block.)Setup on my Mac couldn't have been simpler - plugging in the device added four serial devices, /dev/tty.wchusbserial with four different serial numbers appended afterwards. No driver was needed.The USB-B connector on the back of this is a bit outmoded at this point and I wish it came with USB-C, or at least a B to C cable, but that's a minor quibble - certainly not a dealbreaker for an industrial device like this.All in all, another quality winner from Waveshare.

It does function, but it gives driver conflicts, and haven't been able to get them resolved, including re-installing the driver, trying other/older versions, and all sorts of similar monkeying around.I have other devices from Waveshare that work perfectly, using the exact same drivers so this is kind of curious.The driver conflicts cause the device to cyclically enumerate/de-enumerate and every time the cycle repeats there is a brief comms interruption, which is pretty annoying!

The Waveshare Industrial USB to 4Ch RS485 Converter, Multi Protection Circuits, Multi Systems Support, Aluminium Alloy Case, Wall Mount and Rail-Mount Supportis excellent quality and well made. It has an industrious, robust feel to it.There is good documentation online with all the info you need to get started.I used this with a Linux Mint system and it was instantly detected and worked no problem. Very happy with that.The dip switches can add a 120 Ohm terminating resistor if this unit is on either end of the string.Includes a nice USB A to B cable which is great because those are going out of style and sometimes are hard to find.The screw terminals are durable and work well.The case is made from durable Aluminum.A great way to add four (4) RS485 ports to your setup.Highly recommend.Good value at ~$44 at the time of this review.

Da sich bei mir die Wallboxen in einen Schlafzustand versetzen und ich Home Assistant einsetze, gibt es Probleme mit dem Auslesen mehrerer Geräte. Deshalb habe ich jede Wallbox an einem eigenen Kanal angeschlossen und lese die anderen Geräte über weitere separate Kanäle aus.Das funktioniert einwandfrei.Auch ist die Signalzuverlässigkeit höher als bei den günstigen USB-Sticks. Mit dem Mod-Bus Interface erhalte ich keine Kommunikationsfehler mehr. Mit den günstigen gab es am Anfang auch keine Probleme, aber mit der Zeit ist die Kommunikation immer häufiger ausgefallen. Ich habe einen weiteren Waveshare Modbus mit einem Kanal im Einsatz, der bis jetzt immer Fehlerfrei einsetzbar war....
