A few years ago I decided to start doing push ups to get into better shape. At first I was able to do maybe ten and I gradually built up to being able to do 50 without stopping. This year at age 55 I decided to work on pull ups, which I have never been able to do. I didn't want an over the door bar. I wanted a free standing unit. The Weider Power Tower is well built (the metal welds seem sturdy), well designed, and at my height (5'10") is tall enough that I can hang without my feet touching the floor. At my weight 180 lbs. the strength of the unit is not an issue at all. The metal tubing seems sturdy. Your weight will cause just a little flex on the dip side. My son who is taller and over 200 lbs. would have to bend his knees to keep his feet off the ground during pull ups but the unit still did not have a problem with his weight. There are no moving parts. Your body weight is the source of resistance. I also wanted to do dips and that part of the unit works well. It is exactly what I needed. Two things: First, follow the directions when putting it together. Do not tighten the bolts and nuts until you have them all threaded. It will work better on a solid floor than on carpet. When I built it on a carpet floor, it was the soft carpet that sunk in and made it look like the unit was tipping just a little. I bought exercise squares to put between the unit and the carpet. Second, use good form when exercising. DON'T SWING WHEN DOING PULL UPS. That could cause the unit to tip. But that is bad form. If you don't know how to properly do a pull up, look it up. DON'T TRY TO USE IT FOR A PURPOSE FOR WHICH IT IS NOT INTENDED. It is not intended for you to hang upside down or anything like that. Overall this is a good product at a good price.

First let me say that this Power Tower is a beast! Fairly easy to assemble and solid as a rock when it's all together. It took about an hour to assemble and I did it myself. The caveat is that it's fairly heavy and bulky, so be sure to assemble it near where you plan to use it, or you'll need someone to help you transport it to its final destination.It takes up more space than you would think. While it IS fairly narrow, you need to allow for close to a full body length on the pushup side of the unit and enough room on the other side for legs to clear wall space on a leg lift.The box it came in was pretty beat up, and actually had a rather large hole in it. But nothing was missing, so all's well that ends well.I would have given the unit 5 stars but had to deduct a point for three things.1) The bends on the upper arms aren't exactly the same on the Tower we received. This results in the chinning bar itself not being fully parallel to the floor (or more noticeably - the ceiling). I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I notice these things. My kids, for whom this was purchased, haven't noticed.2) There are four hexagonal holes that I found didn't really do what they were assigned to do. The hex heads on the bolts that mate with these holes didn't line up well so, the heads didn't exactly slip into the shaped gap. In the end, I tightened everything up snugly, so it's somewhat academic, but I feel the designers should have used the same system they used at the other points on the unit. Shaped washers or plates. Maybe my unit had these holes stamped out at less than the ideal location on the lower upright. Again, no one in our family but me will notice this but it's a minor flaw.3) The plastic caps that cover the bolts that hold the chinning bar in place were so tight that one of them cracked while being persuaded into place with a rubber mallet. (the instructions call for this tool). My son DID notice this, but it isn't worth the hassle to try to get a replacement cap.To sum things up: Great exercise equipment, solidly made, will last a life time. I would have "loved" it if it hadn't had the minor flaws noted above.

There were no reviews when I bought this and I am 6'3" 210 lbs so I was worried that this tower was going to not be stable enough. But to my surprise, this tower is built like a tank. Very sturdy and heavy. The tower is about 7'6" tall. I can do pull ups and dips without issue (well I still have an issue in doing them, but the tower has no issue holding my weight). The tower arrives in pieces in one box. The box is very heavy and you might need help lifting it. Follow the instructions and DO NOT tighten the bolts until it is fully assembled. You might also need some help in getting it assembled. Four hands would be better than two. I did it alone and wished I had help a few times. Make sure it is level before tightening everything and you will be ready to go. My only complaint is that my hands we black after putting it together. I guess it is from the powder coating. I have not noticed any paint coming off while using it, but all of the places you put your hands to do exercises have rubber grips. Overall I am very pleased with this tower and would recommend it to anyone looking for this type of equipment. It will also make a great clothes hanger if you stop using it :)

Great product! Very impressed, great price. I can't put anything together ever but this was straight forward. It is 7 feet tall however I was able to assemble it within 2 hours by myself and I'm 5'3. Great quality couldn't be happier. Make sure you have the room for it because it is tall but it's not to wide, which I like. Happy customer

I have used this weider power tower for a few weeks now and I can say this is a great peice of equipment, and I would definitely reccomend this.I managed to put it together by myself in no time, it could not have been anymore than 90 min. The only difficulty I found doing it by myself was keeping it square while i tightened up a the nuts, but using a square helped a lot and another person would have made it a breeze. Also when putting this together that the coating scratches off fairly easy when using sharp edged wrenches if it touches at all.This 'power tower' has the slightest of wobble, but when you put your weight on it the whole thing is solid and the wobble is gone. While using the dip bar side of the structure it was very solid and comfortable and never felt like it would tip. The pullup bar side I haven't had any troubles with balance while using it, however if you stand out and pull at all it definitely moves so do your best to be strict in your form and probably try not to horse around.Overall I really enjoy this peice of equipment and I'm definitely happy with my purchase.
