I was reluctant to buy this mat due to the negative reviews, but I quickly found a common denominator in the negative reviews - the creasing that occurs when the mat is folded for shipping and the subsequent difficulty removing the creases so the mat lies flat on the floor.Some claimed that the creasing was permanent or that the sellers instructions to remove the creases failed, rendering the mat useless. I was determined to never concede defeat to a litter collection mat that I was certain I could make work!The XL mat is indeed folded for shipping, and not just once, but twice. If you look at the dimensions of the XL mat, you can do the math to figure out the mat size after it's been folded twice, because that's petty much going to be the size of the box used to ship it. It's possible that the small mat (or next size) are shipped flat with no folds, particularly if you consider the size of the box used to ship the XL mat - it's big, but my cats used it for a medium-sized condo and now it's trashed, lol!Just as in the product attribute, the vendor includes printed instructions for removing the creases, which is inside a plastic bag containing the mat. Presumably, the preferred method to remove the creases is to cover the mat with at least 65+ lbs of weight for 5-7 days; I suspect some buyers that claimed the creases were permanent or wouldn't relax either didn't have enough weight on the mat or for a long enough period of time, or both.The other method the seller includes for relaxing the creases was to use a hair dryer, allowing heat to serve as a relaxer. I chose the weighted solution since time wasn't an issue, and I'm happy to report that it was ideal.Admittedly, it took a little imagination to figure out what I could use to provide 65 lbs of weighted pressure for a week, but alas, what I used not only worked perfectly, it's probably in your home! I used a large suitcase that was almost the same size as the mat, but not anywhere heavy enough. So, I filled the suitcase with books from my bookshelf. I honestly don't know how much the suitcase ended up weighing, but I couldn't move it an inch once it was filled, lol!Another important consideration for me while relaxing the creases in the mat was to place the mat where my two cats would have an opportunity to see it, smell it, touch it, etc - just so they wouldn't freak out when it was finally in place. My 17 year old female cat just isn't as accepting of environmental changes anymore, so it's essential that I gradually introduce new ideas without stressing her. My other cat is a 6 yr old male that typically isn't bothered by much of anything.After a week I removed the books and suitcase, and just as I expected, all of the creases were relaxed and flattened; couldn't even tell it was once folded! The suitcase exposed about an inch on all four sides of the mat during that week. Obviously, my cats weren't able to fully appreciate the mat with the suitcase on it, yet they were often lying stretched out covering that tiny inch of the mat while it was weighted, lol!When I finally revealed the entire mat, I allowed them the afternoon to enjoy the mat before moving it along side the litter box. I also used that opportunity to sprinkle a bit of catnip on it and was amused when they found how to slide into an open end and out the other, lol! Later that evening I aligned the mat along side the litter box and waited patiently to see their reaction, or better yet, will it work as intended?OMG, I wish I had found the WePet Cat Litter Mat years ago!! This mat has collected 98% of the litter that is usually tracked 8-10 feet from the litter box. I am very impressed! I no longer have to sweep my back door entry hall every day. Now I just empty the mat back into the litter box and sweep during weekly cleaning. It really is that easy! The added benefit is my cats love the feel and seem to know what the mat is for; they now exit the litter box and actually paw at the mat to remove any litter from their feet, I'm amazed! I haven't yet detected any accidental pee on the mat, so I didn't rate the 'water resistance". However, it's probably just a matter of time before my 32 lb Felix pee's short of the box - he doesn't always check that he's in the box before he begins, lol!Other notes:> I buy "World's Best Cat Litter" (the green bag) - the mat traps the litter, which then falls through the top of the mat perfectly. I highly recommend this litter because it's very low dust and controls urine odor. I wouldn't advise changing litter brand and adding this litter collection mat at the same time. Cats can become stressed with change; it's always better to introduce gradual change rather than immediate and sudden changes, especially when their litter box is part of the equation.> My cat's litter box sits against a wall and I've constructed cardboard walls on two sides to prevent them from throwing litter. This allows only one way to enter and exit and due to the mat size, they have no choice but to step on it, rather than over it.> Some reviews noted the mat had an odor. I didn't detect any odor, but I've got 16' ceilings so that 'new' smell doesn't linger. If you're sensitive to smells, I'd recommend placing the mat outside or in a garage until it dissipates - I don't think it will take long.> While I haven't had any issues with urine on the mat, the product specifically states it is not water/liquid proof, only 'water resistant' - which means, if your cat pee's on the mat and you don't see it or clean it for hours, it's going to soak through the mat! If your cat has a propensity to miss the litter box, you may need to upgrade to a larger box... but it doesn't have to be costly! I've always bought those 6 inch tall, under the bed plastic storage bins at Walmart or Target for > Reviews claimed it was difficult to pour litter back into the litter box. I think that has more to do with placement of the box, I've had no issues because my litter box has plenty of room to fold the mat in and pour the litter back into the box.> Lastly, my cats were both declawed when I rescued them, so I can't speak to whether the mat can be clawed or destroyed. Cats become destructive when they're bored or simply wanna claw. A good scratching post can alleviate the issue.I hope others find this mat as useful as I have, or more!

This Cat Litter Mat is a lifesaver! It traps so much of the litter that my cat tracks around, keeping my floors way cleaner. The soft material is gentle on his paws, and the design makes it easy to shake out the litter or vacuum it up. It’s larger than I expected, which is great because it catches more litter, and it dries quickly after cleaning. The only downside is that some litter still gets stuck in the grooves, but overall, it does a great job. Definitely recommend if you want to keep your space cleaner!

This mat does exactly what it needs to. It traps the litter, is easy to clean, and my cats don’t mind the texture. That being said, when it came, it was folded in half and had a huge dent in the middle. This dent was a huge pain to remove. In addition, it smelled violently of chemicals, and the smell didn’t go away for several days. Overall, after a couple of weeks, it’s flat and doesn’t smell, so much better.

I bought the outrageously expensive litter box as a Xmas gift for the cats and me. But still I was getting an unacceptable amount of litter all over the floor. The other day, I saw Princess exit the box by standing on the edge of the box and springing over the black mat, meant to catch the litter, and onto the wood floor. I immediately started looking for a solution and found this mat. It came folded in quarters. The instructions said to use a blow dryer to smooth out the resistant creases. That worked well enough to be able to use it and I'm sure it will continue to flatten. This AM, there was hardly any litter on the floor (and the app said it had been used by both cats.) Mission accomplished! I would buy this mat again!
