The graduations make it easy to see the work surface and material at the same time, very useful.

Great little ruler for art or drafting. Measurements line up with my machinists rulers and combination squares (though this is only graduated to 1/8 inch, good enough for most applications). I got a few different sizes of these as they were very inexpensive and recommended by my drawing teacher. It is excellent to put an even border for your artwork as the lines can be lined up with the edge of the paper. I have already found uses outside of class to use these for sketching ideas and plans for use in the shop. These are thing and I would not use them as a cutting edge, however that is not what they are intended for either. For less than 5 bucks how can you go wrong.

I don't remember buying this. It must have been a gift. Whoever asked for it probably did their research and picked a good one.

This product has not changed for over thirty years! My mom still has two of hers from the late 80s to early 90s that are exactly the same as the one I received, a true testament to the product’s durability. It’s slightly flexible and clear plastic with red markings. The markings can be difficult to read for people who need larger print but this is a very small problem in my opinion. Everything is clearly marked and the grid lines make it easier to get accurate measurements. I trust this brand 100% and you should too!

As others have complained they are not as thick, substantial as the ones I have owned in the past. They are the only ones that let me draw parallel lines on paper and easily measure exact distances for my light carpentry work. So I have them and keep them. I trim some lengths to fit 8 1/2 by 11 inch paper, one length for just underlining a word or two another for the full width of the paper and another for the length of the paper. Sometimes I will even tape two 18 lengths together for a longer 36" clear ruler for edging purposes. Some of my preference for these may be that I am left handed and much of the time I end up reading a tape measure backwards which unfortunately leads me to some errors. I would spend more again in a heart beat for the older heaver ones. Evidently the manufacturer believes that cheaper equals more sales [price/quality]. In my opinion these are specialty products that are not as price sensitive as the manufacturer believes. The prime example of the non sensitivity of some specialty products are the Moleskin line of paper goods They are very expensive, very popular and moleskin is very profitable.

I'm replacing the one I had gotten previously. I was inclined to pick up my older one to guide my rotary cutting, but sometimes I cut crookedly and dinged the edge. I got this one so I have smooth edges for drafting straight, clean lines. I'm keeping this new one in its sleeve to help me remember to keep it away from sharp tools. It's so clear, I often get confused trying to read the numbers ... and then I realize it's upside-down. Being so clear helps a lot for aligning it with what I want to cut.

I can't believe every ruler isn't setup like this. If you're an artist, this thing is amazing. I first saw someone using this on the Trust Your Perspective YouTube channel and it dawned on me how useful a transparent ruler with grid lines would be doing any sort of drawing, but particularly more technical ones. BUT, if you want to fit this ruler in a bookbag, get the 12 inch version, this one is too long for that, but great for a drafting table. It's not very thick, but that's fine for me. Note: I do pencilled comic art.
