This awl has much better quality needles. Had purchased a different awl for repairing tarp canopy on my flat bed conestoga. Needle broke immediately.

I purchased this awl ti replace one that I have had for years. The old one finally had the - I guess it could be called a "chuck" work loose. It's made of aluminum, so I can' solder it to repair it.The awl came with three needles, a wrench for the chuck, and several spools of thread. I find it just the ticket for sewing canvas and repairing boots.

Item comes with absolutely no instructions on how to use it. Unless you have used one like this before, good luck. Comes with no instructions

Missing one star because I had to file down the wrench/slot screwdriver handle and taper it a little bit more so it would fit in the screw that holds the spools. Also, the wrench/screwdriver was a slight bit to big to fit in the handle so just had to center it in the hole and screw on the cap and force it to make grooves in the wood so that it now fits easily. No big deal. Not a deal breaker for me but could have been a bit better. Seems to be good quality so far. Built solid. I received it faster than I thought, only a few days after I ordered it. I did a ton of searching for stitching awls and this is best value for what is included in the price that I could find. Lots of spools of different coloured threads, 3 needles, and the wrench/screwdriver. I recommend it.
