I bought this device to check the moisture in our basement. It seems like our basement is musty in Winter and humid in Summer. Right out of the box I noticed the device was heavy and felt well-constructed, no flimsy feeling. It is about as big as your hand and made of quality materials; it appears to be designed in Germany and manufactured in China. It uses two Triple A batteries. included.It had a simple instruction booklet; just 3 pages of instructions in five different languages. But don't let the simple instructions fool you. The device has several features: ambient temperature readout, moisture level, backlighting, and measurement hold. It is clearly labeled with only three large buttons: Material type, function set, and power. Turn the unit on and you'll see the ambient temperature in C or F. Set the material scale for hardwood, softwood, or mortar, and press into the material. That's it! It couldn't be easier.The moisture meter shows the ambient temperature and moisture in hardwoods or softwoods. It has large numbers and is backlit so you can read it in a dark location. It has a hold feature so you can measure around the corner or out of sight and then pull it back to see the moisture reading. It is very simple to use It showed in our basement a 12% moisture level inside the wood. for reference. our wood upstairs had almost no moisture content. This little gem is a great value for the low price.

Nice, easy to use moisture meter. Overall, it appears to be of good quality, typical of small electronics these days. It couldn't be easier to use; turn it on, set the mode for your type of wood, and press the pins into the wood. The small size makes it very convenient, small enough to easily fit in you pocket and bring to the lumber yard and get a rough idea of moisture content.As with most moisture meters, you will need to set this one for the density of the wood that you are measuring. Unfortunately, the supplied chart is very limited in wood species. If your species is not on the chart, you will need to look up the density of your wood species and then find another species on the chart that is similar.I have know idea about the absolute accuracy of the meter, but I compared readings with a surface style meter I also use on several wood species and this meter always seems to read a few percent lower. I don't know which is more accurate and in truth it does not matter since the way I use moisture meters is to take readings with the same meter over a long period of time (weeks or months), and once the values stop changing, then you know your wood is fully acclimated to your environment.At $19.99, this little pin meter is a very good value. It will be interesting to see how it performs over time and see ho well it performs, but at this price point, it is worth having around.

Meter reads zero on all lumber samples tested. Will sometimes display transient readings that return to zero very quickly. It will produce measurements when probes are touched to the hand. Also produces transient readings when the case is touched around the area of the display. Not reliable at all for lumber moisture content measurements.

I used this tool to check my basement carpet moisture level after I cleaned it. Easy to use. I liked the "hold" and the "back light" feature.

Thought i had already done a review on this, oh well!!! excellent value, smaller than anticipated but just makes it so much easier to carry it in my pocket when I go to lumber yard and can verify moisture level on lumber I am considering purchasing.

The batteries are easy to replace, operation is simple, the unit is lightweight and small (the length of my finger), the instructions are simple (and short), you can press a button to backlight the reading, the read-out is large enough and it even tells you the temperature (in Celsius or Fahrenheit). I like simple things that do what they're supposed to and take up little space!
