I welded both fittings to the the new shaft matching the original position compared to the other end with both ends sitting on a level steel plate in perfect vertical alignment to prevent twisting inside the pipe, in my case a table saw. I checked lengthwise with a strait edge on each side then tac welded both new fittings and everything went OK. When press fitting the universal joints the ends would bend inward maybe .001" making the motion very hard after the "C" rings were installed. A few taps with the hammer outward on both cast tangs freed everything up like magic.JJK
