I bought these to take kayaks to on vacation. It was a six hour drive and they worked great. Installation is a piece of cake.

Just installed it on our SUV yesterday, took around 30-45 minutes to assemble them in the house, then another 30 minutes to put them on the rack. All in all, impressed with the fit. Haven’t put kayaks on it yet but will update if there’s issues. Good buy for the price.

These work very well and are secure. I learned later ther are foldable types available which would save me from having to detach each time I am going into the city.Install was easy (my grandson did for me!l but I've un-installed and reinstalled a few times. It would have been nice if i got the folding type. However not sure how well those hold the canoes or kayaks in place while traveling?

A lot of the reviews said the straps were too short so I bought additional straps. Totally not necessary. If you strap it in the way the instructions say to, they are exactly the right length with about a foot of slack. I don’t know if those reviews were for the folding ones or if they came with shorter straps than mine did, but I got the non-folding ones and they were great. Very sturdy. Installing was kind of a headache but I’m never great at installing things.

These racks work great and the straps work well for short trips. id recommend ratchet straps on long trips you'll be cruising 60-80mph as I've noticed they've lost a bit of tension on some trips. I have a Subaru Impreza (embarrassing i know. Never again) and they fit great and do the job well. Im sure you could spend more for beefier, more rigid racks but for the price point for the casual kayaker you cant beat it.

The kit did not come with instructions, and the assembly was not as smooth and easy as shown by the video. The first problem was I could not hand tighten the provided nuts and short bolts, either cheap hardware or mismatched hardware, with metric and non-metric parts. As the bolt head was smooth (i.e. not a flat head or Phillips head), there was no way to hold it at one end for tightening with a tool. I went to a hardware store to purchase a new set of short bolts and nuts and completed that step.As per the video instructions, I looked for the nuts with the long bolts and found none. This was my second trip to the hardware store to find a different set of nuts and long bolts. Finally when attaching the assembled product on the car rack, I found that the holes drilled in the small metal plate are either just right or a trifle too small. I had to re-drill some of these holes to be able to attach everything to the car rack. The metal plates have a sturdy construction, but the Chinese hardware was either awful or just mismatched with metric bolts and non-metric nuts or vice-versa. For better quality control, the seller should assemble a product to work out these types of issues and then dis-assemble and ship to the customer. Not to be a political activist, but I also wish Amazon would list clearly that the product is made in China.

Sad to say I can’t recommend this product. Fasteners are rusting after a couple of months. I wouldn’t trust this for safety reasons.
