This Yamaha YEV 105 is absolutely beautiful! Buying it from the ElectricViolinShop through Amazon was a great experience. We even received a hand written note from Susie at EVS. What a nice surprise! It was delivered right on time, and had been very carefully packed for shipping so it arrived in perfect condition. It was professionally set up and ready to play right out of the box. I've enjoyed playing it every day since it arrived. This violin is so beautiful, it looks like a piece of art! The instrument has lovely tone, and is a joy to play. It is an absolutely amazing value for the price, and I couldn't be happier!!

I was very excited to get this violin, which shipped quickly enough to DC. It was well packaged and already set up and certified by the seller. From the little I was able to test it before sending it back (see below), it had a rich sound, good volume for lacking a resonating body, and seemed incredibly well crafted.However, shipping a fragile violin always is a risk and unfortunately I received my product with a broken string and loose tuning peg. After Amazon first put me in contact with Yamaha for support (who were amazing!), I ended up contacting the seller on Amazon to find out options for a fix.This is where things were somewhat frustrating. While customer support was pretty responsive, instructing me to ship back my violin for them to send a completely new replacement, I kept getting conflicting information. Despite informing me that returns are usually processed within two days and a replacement would automatically be sent out, my return (which had been sent by UPS and signed for) appears to have sat for just over a week. When I contacted support, I was told to just wait for the returns team to process it — no big deal. However, once my return finally processed and Amazon processed a refund to my card, I was told that no replacement would be coming — if I wanted a new violin, I’d have to place the order again. This is frustrating as it has now been more than 3 weeks since I first ordered this violin, and now I’m looking at another potential week of waiting — if I had known to reorder while my return was processing, I’d be playing the violin as I type this!This is obviously not the end of the world, but it was not encouraging to hear that no replacement was guaranteed as I’ve been watching the stock of this product available shrink from 5 down to 2. Having placed my new order again today, it seems like I’m getting it by the skin of my teeth. Better communication by customer support would have made this a much smoother experience — if it were possible, I’d say it’s the only thing that made this a 4.5 instead of 5 star purchase.

Wonderful instrument. I bought it through Amazon from The Electric Violin Shop and it arrived with the bridge set up...pretty much ready to tune up and play.I play regularly with a group and this instrument has gotten a lot of attention. It not only looks different than a traditional acoustic, the sound is great..smooth and resonate. Many positive comments on that.I’ve also had many comments on the sparse design...like “shall we take up a collection so you can buy the rest of it’. It seems to be a real item of curiosity, but is repeatedly described as “beautiful, just beautifulâ€.It plays comfortably. I like the arch on the bridge...again probably because it was set up by the Electric Violin Shop.I bought a case for it on Amazon that works well. Aileen 4/4 hard-bodied Violin case and it fits perfectly. I use a shoulder rest (which fits nicely on this instrument) and can secure it in the case with the Velcro strap.Highly recommend if you’re looking for an electric violin.

There is a learning curve with this 5 string violin/viola if you are accustomed to a typical 4 string instrument. It produces a faint sound when not plugged in so that you can practice without disturbing the neighbors. I use it with a Kustom amplifier and it sounds great.

Fantastic violin. Well set-up, easy to play, great sound, feels almost like playing my regular fiddle. The mixed woods are lovely, the shape is cool, and it is a steal for the price.Update: I've now had it for several months, and am coming to really appreciate the quality of the pickups. The tone comes out clean irrespective of the quality of the amplifier (have since sampled quite a few) and it plays almost like a "real" violin. There is a bit of an adjustment as regards the weight distribution (not so easy to hold hands-free). The shape is eye-catching, but really, the most comments I get relate to the sound quality. Go forth and buy one!

A beautiful instrument. I own a recording studio and I record this instrument often. The sound is excellent for the price, it's comfortable and can be used with my shoulder rest. The 1/4" line out is in a convenient spot, where the cable doesn't get in your face like the silent violin series. Passive means no battery. I like that. I just wish it came with a case. The extra string made it too long for mine
