I am a beginner/intermediate level crocheter and have been crocheting for about 2-3 years now and I was just getting so sick of working out of skeins. This tool makes my yarn into perfect cakes that are so easy to work out of without tangling the yarn. I just clip it to my coffee table and use my hand to support the yarn being fed into the cake and it works just fine. It also makes much larger cakes than I expected it to, such as a roll of bernat baby blanket yarn. The only thing I dislike about it is that the metal pin that holds the yarn isn’t the most stable and I find myself having to stop quite often to reposition it.

Once you get a good tension on the yarn as you spin, it holds together and does not tangle. Good bang for your buck.- Helps me knit without having to stop just to unravel more yarn, just to have it tangle or in my case fur getting on my yarn or a cat thinking it’s part of their toy! - It’s not as noisy as one might think, almost a white noise. Very easy to use, almost relaxing just to use to.- the speed is up to you. Only thing I’d suggest is putting a bit on tension on the yarn as you are spinning, helps keep the ball together longer.

I’ve always kind wound my yarn from skeins, but my husband kindly purchased this yarn cake winder for me for Mother’s Day. It is incredibly disappointing. It vaguely works but the piece of metal that is supposed to keep the yarn attention slips and flops more than a politician, it’s completely useless. I have to hold a yarn in my left hand, trying to keep some tension while winding it with my right. Considering that I’m blind, this is pretty damn depressive! Resultant cake of yarn is too squishy. Cello you crocheters and knitters will understand what I mean but this object creates a yarn cake that is so loose that it falls apart in my yard basket. He’s a complete waste of money. Why did they give it three stars? I did but it said it with you, even though it did it poorly just like a politician.

Ok so, I do loom knitting and trying to take it off the yarn balls that are already wrapped is annoying bc it flops all over for me and my cat thinks thats an invitation to party it up. I went and got a yarn holder that spins around for me so it stays still but trying to plop a yarn ball right from the store on there was making it impossible to do. I got this and redid them and it works so perfectly it’s amazing. It rolls it in a way that it will never get tied up and wont fall off bc its to loose or something. I have wrapped all of my yarn using this and i love it. It can latch on to a table and you can spin without worrying it’s going to fall off. I recommend buying this for sure

I read through multiple reviews before deciding to add my own.My complaints are similar to many others i read - I had overall issues with it and the arm that holds the strand of yarn was very loose and wobbly. The attachment to secure on table is very small so make sure to check that first! My BIGGEST complaints- the yarn would end up getting under the base and then wrapping around the gears, this happened a few times that i caught quickly and had to fight to get it out, the final time it happened i thought i got it all out, but it wasnt winding the cake properly after that. I took it apart and all to try fixing it and could not get it fixed. I was also only using 2-3 oz skeins of yarn and i believe this is *supposed* to be for 4 oz cakes. I ended up throwing it away two days after buying it and replacing it with a different yarn winder i found on amazon for $23 and am having a much better time with this one!Pros to this item - good price on a budget, not terrible if you use it very slowly and CAREFULLY.

Its great and the locking mechanism works when setting up the yarn but the yarn guide keeps catching on the spool baseI found it is fine if i apply the yarn tension towards the side and a little away from the spool to keep the guide from hitting the spool base hope this helps

I’ve used it close to everyday since getting it. No brain power involved to set up and use. Helps those of us who have a ridiculous amount of yarn that we need to ball

Pros: It winds the yarn into cakes well enoughCons: the wire yarn feeder has no way to lock into position when winding and will slowly move back towards the cake. It’ll then hit the cake if you don’t catch it in time and knock the cake and spindle part for the cake off the winder. It’s cheap, so you don’t expect it to work perfectly. Just as long as it does the job
