This is a good tool, however, the metal rod that keeps the yarn in the same position will not stay in place for long - the mechanism is too flimsy. It can still be used successfully with a little care. I don’t expect it to last too long. A wooden one is both sturdier and prettier. However, this one is at a pretty good price.

I have always wanted a yarn ball winder. My yarn tends to get all tangled and knotty or unwound and a mess. Many half used skeins have had to be tossed because they were too knotted and I didn't have the patience for getting the knots out.This winder has made my life SOOOOO much easier- plus, it is fun to use. I had a skein that was starting to unwind and make a mess that I used the winder on. After each ball was wound, I secured it with a rubber band and tucked it away safely. My new nicely wound balls look so lovely, and they knit/crochet up easily as well. You don't encounter the dreaded yarn knots that is lurking deep within the skeins of your normal store bought skeins.I haven't mastered making huge yarn balls yet- I don't even know if you can. But seriously, they look so nice and orderly when wound up. The winder is super easy to use and so relaxing. Just get one and wind up all of your yarn during a binging session on tv.

Product is great. For my first time use of it ever it wasn't hard to assemble or anything like that. What made it more difficult to use is the guide loop doesn't stay locked into place so when rolling the yarn. its moving all around also getting too close to the ball so the ball kept hitting into the guide loop making a clanking sound. I had to hold the guide loop out and roll the handle with my other hand. Also pushing my yarn away with the same hand holding the guide loop. so it got the job done. The roll is beautiful. Just a bit of a fight with the guide. Not annoying enough for me to return it as holding the guide with my hand also allowed me to push away the yarn since my hand was already there. Like playing defense against the yarn every time it crept up trying to get tangled in the guide when you have to turn it. The guide loop will stay standing up but once you knock it the slightest it falls out of the “lockâ€. It would be better if there was something that it snapped into. It snaps downward when putting it away... It should do that for the up position as well. Very flimsy guide loop.

If you think you can make a whole cake with this, you're sadly mistaken. From the yarn guide being the flimsiest thing I have ever seen, to the yarn itself getting tangled into the gears, this product is NOT worth your money.

I "harvest" yarn from thrift store sweaters. I used to make center-pull balls on my thumb, but when I saw this reasonably priced yarn winder, I figured it was worth buying it to speed up the process. The thread guide falls down a lot, but on the whole it works quite well. Although I have a swift, when I'm unraveling a sweater, it makes more sense to go directly from sweater piece to yarn winder, and I simply control the tension by hand so the yarn doesn't get stretched out. The hand crank works easily and smoothly. I don't see any reason to go for high-end winders (unless maybe for yarn shops if they need to wind balls much faster), and I highly recommend this one.

Got this as a Christmas gift for my wife she uses it as much as she can lol loves it and can't wait to wind again. You wanna make sure good tension is on the string as you are winding at it really does work great you will get the hang of it over time and be faster and it will whine just about anything that will fit into the slot it's great for more things than just yarn or threads. Came on time and as described the great value for the money well worth it.

The yarn feed spindle does not stay in place by itself leading to the yarn winding around the mechanism and getting tangled. I had to sellotape it in place. The table clamp is also quite narrow meaning it won’t fit on most tables and desks. My advice - spend a bit more money and get better quality.

The yarn feed spindle does not stay in place by itself leading to the yarn winding around the mechanism and getting tangled. I had to sellotape it in place. The table clamp is also quite narrow meaning it won’t fit on most tables and desks. My advice - spend a bit more money and get better quality.
