My Ram truck did not come with the integrated trailer brake controller and the dealer wanted $1000 to install and flash the computer so it would work, did I decided to do it myself. There was plenty of info online about doing it. The installation of the hardware was relatively easy with the wiring already under the dash waiting for me, the screws that came with it were useless since I couldn't get my hands in the space, so I used zip ties to mount it. I've seen plenty of others online saying they did the same thing. Flashing the computer is another thing altogether and I recommend you look online for advice on that, but I was able to get mine working and it was definitely worth the effort.

this was not easy to install, I was unable to get all the screws in the mounting plate. I was only able to get 1 of 3 screws on the mounting plate, I used zip ties on the other 2 holes. I have seen that others had this same problem; you cannot get your hands into the area to install the screws. I did get it to work after watching several videos on You Tube, you don't get customer service at all. I got about a mile down the road when it stopped working. This is a huge safety issue; I live in the mountains and with a heavy load and your trailer brakes stop working can cause an accident. I didn't have one, but I was paying close attention to what was happening. I have read other reviews saying it just stopped working and didn't pay attention to them. Don't make the same mistake I did, If you get this, please be very careful.

The switch took about 10 min to install in the center console. I used double sided tape and a large zip tie to fasten the controller under the dash, which took 10 min to complete. I already have the AlfaODB and I just had to enable 2 settings.I plugged in my trailer and everything registered in the Trailer Display in the dash. I haven't taken the trailer for a test drive yet. Therefore, I will be revising my review in the near future. In total it took 30 min start to finish to complete. Most of the time was spent removing the previous brake controller mounted under the dash near my knee.

Pretty simple hookup. As long as your truck is already pre-wired. Not sure what you would have to do if it is not pre-wired. Just be sure you pay attention when you take the dash apart and disconnect all of the cables. All the videos I watched on YouTube showed the cable that connects to the break control switch is tapped up with other wiring harness in the dash but mine was connected to the dummy switch that we popped out of the dash.

I had looked at a few reviews and message board threads on the installation before starting. OEM instructions were straight forward. I investigated for myself by pulling the lower driver's side panel and found the 3 holes where the screws were to be installed and decided I wasn't going to attempt installing them from the opposite side. Instead of using screws, I secured the bracket with wire ties. I pulled the center dash panel and swapped out the blank plate for the control switch, then reinstalled the center panel. Dealer update for the computer was $104.00. I spent 1 hour on the install including travel time and dealer update.

Installed the brake controller and flashed the truck at the dealership because my private mechaince didnt have access to chrysler dealer connect. The module works and displays a read out, but the minus button is broken and won't lower the gain.

I think this may just be a rebrand of the legit one based on the look and feel of everything, especially the instruction book. The bracket for the computer is a bit of a pain but that's MOPAR's fault, not this seller. I used AlfaOBD to program the required settings into the truck and everything works! Still need to hook up a trailer and make sure it activates trailer brakes, but I think it'll be good to go. Considering the OEM one is over $300, this is a must buy if your Ram didn't come with a brake controller.

The requirement of dealer need to finish programming should be stated clearly in product description. Was fairly easy to install, but now on the hook for cost of dealership programming. Instructions for programming provided are absolutely useless. Website (dealer connect) is strictly controlled and access is a dealer only thing. All you really save is on installation if you do it yourself. Cost me $225 to flash the darn thing. Updated 30 Nov - Nothing but problems! Works intermittently, all plugs check out fine.. DO NOT BUY! Spend the money to go OEM so you don’t get screwed!
