This is a complete and self-contained system to detect leaks, notify you, and shut off your water main. It comes with three leak detector sensors and each already has the necessary batteries installed. They can be bought separately in sets of three.Installation is a bit laborious only insofar as there are a number of distinct steps, though no one of which is very hard to do. Only tools needed were a cordless drill with a Phillips head driver bit, a Phillips head screwdriver and a crescent wrench. You will need a WiFi router and you will need to create a dedicated 2.4GHz channel for it. You will also need to connect the YoLink WiFi hub by Ethernet cable to your WiFi router and also to wall power. This will be the "brain" and respond to water leaks detected by your sensors to notify you and shut off your water main. This is designed for a quarter-turn 1" ball valve. If your water main is not equipped with one you are SOL. The valve operator comes with a couple of sets of adapters, clamps and ring couplers so you have options to best fit the mechanical operator to your water main's ball valve and its location. This will need to be connected to an electronic controller which is mounted to nearby wall (wood or drywall screws are included) which in turn will need to be connected to wall power. The leak sensors then need to be added to the system, named and then put in place. Each one has a pair of steel electrodes on bottom and on top. Apparently, they can be triggered by as little as 0.01" (0.25 mm) of moisture. I could test trigger one by licking the pad of my thumb and touching it to the electrodes. The valve operator automatically shut off the water when I tested a sensor on the third floor of my house; the hub is on the main/second floor and the water main is in the basement/first floor. You will need to be able to download and use a smartphone app to link all these devices together and personalize any settings such as notification by email, text, banners, sound, etc. Just let you know, or also automatically shut off the water? Also, I recommend scanning the QR codes in the enclosed Quick Start instructions for detailed User Instructions. Definitely worth it.Overall, I am happy with this system and look forward to seeing how well it works over time. It is complete and installation requires a number of distinct steps (details above).A few things that don't leap off the page: you'll need to be comfortable with downloading and using a smartphone app, setting up a 2.4 GHz channel on your router and this only works with a quarter-turn ball valve control on your water main. You'll need to connect a hub directly to your WiFi router and to wall power, and the valve controller setup will need to be close to wall power as well as close to your water main shut-off valve.

I purchased the YoLink Link Smart Water Leak Protection System Kit with the Bulldog Valve Robot - Smart Valve Controller, two hubs and 7 leak sensors with 15 more leak sensors coming. First and foremost, once setup properly, the leak detection and valve shutoff is impeccable. A must have to protect your home. The installation of the Bulldog Valve Robot was pretty simple and the instructions were ok to good.I downloaded the app and once I fumbled through the setup, naming convention and app layout, it was a breeze. Instructions could be much better. I got all my first 7 leak sensors named and eventually provisioned online and to the app. Getting the hubs provisioned was easy. Getting the Bulldog Valve provisioned and on the app was a bit more difficult but I worked through it. All in all, not terrible. Again, better instructions and step by step would have been great.So...once everything is in the app, named, online/connected via Wi-Fi, the rules engine connecting the leak sensors to the valve and actions taken (shut off valve and notifications) have to be completed. There where no instructions so I called customer support and spoke with Josh. Josh was awesome and my new best friend for about 20 minutes. Josh walked me through on how to set up all the rules engines and connect each leak sensor to the Bulldog valve. Additionally, he emailed me step by step instructions. Like I said, I've got a lot more leak sensors coming so this will be helpful. I tested each of the leak sensors by applying moisture to the tabs and the main valve closed and I received a notification. When this is all said and done, I'll have $350-$400 dollars invested in my YoLink leak detection/water shut off. The savings in homeowners insurance will more than cover the cost. More importantly, if this continues to work and detect leaks and shut off the main before extensive damage, this will save me the deductible for a loss, a lot of repair headaches and insurance rates increasing in the future. The last leak I had resulted in me paying my $2,500 deductible and 10 weeks of repairs including drying out the basement. And that was with the leak occurring for 2-hours. Wish I had this installed before.Final Note: If you have a hot water recirculating pump, you'll need a way to turn off the pump if you are not home. I installed a Leviton outlet that I can turn the power on/off via an app in case I'm not home. I do not want to damage or burn up the recirculating pump.I would highly recommend this product and recommend folks take the time to protect their home!Update 1/23/2024In connecting your Leak Detector to your Main Valve Shut-Off, you have to go to "Smart", then "Automation", then select the Leak Detector you already named including the "Room" you may have assigned the Leak Detector to. Name the device the same as the name used to set up the device. Then select "When", then select "Water Detected" and Save. Then go to Behaviors and click the + button and select "Close" under the Main Valve Shut Off (this is my name for the valve shut off device). The Save. Click + Behavior again and select Notifications and set up the notification rules (message, notification method/text, email, both). Save. Check for "Behaviors" for the device listed on the App and you should see those Behaviors. Done.Reminder, just because you name the Detector, make up a Room and move the device into the Room and get a Wi-Fi signal on the device, doesn't mean the Leak Detector is connected to the shut-off valve. You have to do the above steps to connect the device/sensor to the shut off valve with Behaviors that drive the action - (a) detect water? - shut off valve (b) detect water? - send notification via email and/or text.2nd update 1/23/2024I added a Govee Smart Plug to the Hot Water Heater Recirculating Pump so if the water is shut off due to a leak detection, I can turn off the pump from the Govee App and prevent the pump from burning up/being damaged. Also, I set the pump on a timer within the Govee Smart Plug turning off the pump from 10 pm until 6 am. No need for recirculating hot water in the middle of the night.3rd Update 1/25/2024If you have a cleaning service for your home or clean yourself, be sure to remove the leak detection sensors before mopping. Otherwise, the sensor will trigger the main value shut-off.4th UpdateSensor went off last week under the kitchen sink and shut off the main water valve. Couldn't find a leak but checked under the sink and the soap dispenser wasn't tight and water would drip down into the lower sink cabinet. Tightened it and no issues afterwards. small issue but over time can damage the lower cabinet. This morning, the senor in the kitchen sink went off again and shut off the main water valve. checked the hot/cold and found the top nut needed to be tightened. Dripping a little bit of water. Again, enough to damage the cabinets over time and something I would have never detected without YoLink. It also pointed to a bigger issue I need to address - the hot water shutoff valve under the sink is 20-years old and likely needs to be replaced. I'll schedule a plumber to come out and either change the guts or the entire valve. Better safe than sorry. With all the above, my wife and I got the alerts (text & email), the main water valve closed and we addressed the issue requiring only a towel for cleaning. Still delighted with YoLink5th UpdateJust added a UPS (battery backup) to the YoLink Main Valve Shutoff (my naming convention - YoLink's Bulldog Valve Robot). Already had a battery backup for our internet/wifi. Also put a UPS on our eero hubs/pucks and YoLink hubs. Likely overkill but want to ensure I've got backups just in case.6th UpdateI left the water running in the laundry sink. The Yolink sensor by the Washing Machine and under the sink activated and shut off the water in 12 seconds after overflowing. Got the alert and was able to clean the floor with a towel. But for YoLink, we would have had a lot of water damage. Saved us again. Crazy not to have this in your home.

This product works as described. The connection to the water meter's valve is solid, the firmware is reliable and the water sensors are sensitive. The system works on your home wifi ( the app works with wifi of cellular) so the coverage is your whole house if your wifi is working well. The system is expandable using the same hub. I bought another package with more sensors and connected them to the same hub. I also connected the spare hub I got with the second package and it turns out it makes the system more reliable. It's fairly easy to set it up. It took me about an hour. If you have trouble just watch a YouTube video. The customer service was good too. I emailed them a question and they got back to me quickly. It gives me a little peace of mind just in case I have a leak at my water heater, refrigerator, etc. It's also nice when I come home from vacation I can just turn the water back on from my phone from my car.PS. I got the system that doesn't require soldering. This is the one I got. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B098QP4ZLH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1YoLink DIY Automatic Water Leak Detection & Shut-Off Starter Kit, EVO Valve Operator, Wireless Valve Controller, (3) Leak Sensors, Hub

and thus need to be covered - I used a plastic food container which was easy to cut holes in for the cables. Home Depot has a thermostat cover. Easy installation.

It works, detects water and shuts off the water valve. Installation was straight forward. Be sure to add each water sensor to Automation in the app to actually close the valve, otherwise it will just notify you that your basement is now your swimming pool. Why 4 stars? The hub is odd. Any changes and it goes offline. I changed the e'net and it's gone, again (see screen capture). I will set it up, again.
