The lathe itself is pretty well made, but the accessories are junk. Small hand carving knives dull very quickly, and regular lathe tools are too big. For what I do, wood hand chisels work best. I can turn pool cue ferrules to within 0.001" of what I want. It takes time. There is a learning curve. And, some aptitude is necessary.

The YWY Mini Lathe Machine Tool is a solid choice for small DIY woodworking projects. It’s compact, easy to set up, and performs well for tasks like milling, grinding, and polishing. The build quality is impressive, and it handles wood with precision, making it ideal for beginners and hobbyists alike. The only downside is the included tools, which could be of better quality. While they’re functional, upgrading to higher-quality tools would significantly enhance the overall experience.Despite this minor issue, the lathe itself works great and is an excellent value for the price. I’d definitely recommend it for anyone starting out or working on small-scale woodworking projects!

First, throw away the tools that come with this machine - they are absolute garbage. Second, even with competent tools, this machine is dangerous. Even clamped down it will vibrate so hard at any speed that it will try to run away from you. It needs some sort of rubber feet to keep it stable and quiet. No matter how you mount the wood, due to the vibrations it quickly gets to the point that it isn’t held properly in place and the wood will go flying. All I have to say is I’m glad I’m serious about safety gear and you get what you pay for - invest in something more expensive, it will be worth it. I thought this would be a nice, small machine for working with short wood pens but now I’m just sad I didn’t get to seriously work with it until the return window closed.

All works, as in the description. The speed is switched on the power supply. “Stametry,as other buyers wrote,” After the first test, cut edges and bends. The pulse of the machine is good and the turbine is perfect.According to the complete set, everything is smooth. The machine itself works without complaints. The cutters are not hot and can only be used for soft wood. In the rest, everything is super, thanks for the efficiency. The machine is placed on the stool. Works quietly, smoothly. It is stable, does not walk: weight and rubber legs are enough. After unpacking immediately grabbed what was at hand, began to try. On emotions stuck without searching for the center. All ok. Cutters that are included, did not risk.Hardened them with a burner. Sharpened against the stone, replenished goi. I tried them. Brought already can and work. In general, for small crafts the most it! Purchase satisfied. I'll attach the photo.

This is not a CNC device. it is a very small bed with a small motor lathe. It is best for making pens, beads, and not much else and even then toss the tools provided and buy some real onesThe instructions are horrible. They do not explain any of what came with the product, so I needed to so to the description online and figure out what they were by reading the "comes with" section. The lathe came and was running at full speed and again, there was nothing i the instructions on how to slow it down. I had to read all the Q&A to find out how to reduce the speed of the lathe. The turinng "tools" provided are a joke. They are tiny, which makes sense as the lathe is as well; however, the metal the blades are made from look almost like steel package strapping that was ground on one end to look like a tool. All in all, i was able to turn a small 3" piece of cheap soft wood into a dowel after over 45 minutes of work.

Small, high speed, very useful little lathe. I bought it to make a few little things and love it. Tools are a bit cheesy but good chisels are not expensive.I use it to finish beads, and little wheels, as well as turn some handles and made little toggles for some bigger projects.I have yet to use it at the highest setting, little guy is fast!If you use bead/disc drill bits, this thing is fantastic for sanding them down to a smooth surface ready for finish.Next I’d like to make a chess set.I had a minor issue with a small part, several months after purchasing, customer service was absolutely Johnny on the spot, asked for a picture and sent a replacement part right away. Customer service was exemplary!

This mini lathe requires minimal setup and does function. The low torque is going to keep you limited in what materials and sizes you can use moreso that it's compact size, but as a learning tool or for a crafter making beads and pen blanks it really is quite sufficient. What is absolutely NOT sufficient, or even safe, is the cheap tools that come with it. The moment that cheap steel chisel touched a piece of PINE shards of metal chipped off and went flying. DO NOT USE THEM. Get some harbor freight high speed steel turning tools and you'll be fine. But yeah the lathe itself does exactly what it should.

I didn’t want to spend $500 to make pens, so I figured I’d give this a shot. I used a 7mm steel rod I got from Amazon in a set. The chuck fit it fine, and the backstop was a little bit of a stretch but doable by hand. Try to get your wood as round as you can before you start. Don’t bother with the tools they give you. They’re downright dangerous, toss them. Plus they don’t work. I used a straight chisel I got in a cheap harbor freight kit. My first piece stoped numerous times, but it was very off center (my fault). My second piece didn’t have nearly the problems the first did. After the edges were smoothed out, it was smooth sailing from there. Totally worth it to make a few pens, with a few adjustments. PS my blank is pictured in the second picture before I turned it for size reference.

to send back so i will keep it for light duty work on balsa model airplanes but i would not want to push it too hard on any heavy material beyond plastic and softer wood. the tools included are for learning with and the lathe tools are cheesy as others have stated so be prepared to buy something of better quality. I may use the saw attachment for notching ribs and bulkheads on model airplanes rather than an x-acto knife on wood past 1/16th'' in thickness. this lathe is for light duty or bead making so don't expect to use any heavy materials for your project or it may be too hard on the motor. it's a bit fidgety to set up so be patient to get the accuracy you want with your projects. Some people with imagination or creativity will probably go farther than I can imagine and make their own mandrels rather than buying one. it's a fun little gadget to learn some basics of how a lather operates.
