These bricks are very compressed, so despite the small size of the - it expands 4x to 6x easily in volume when wet.We have dense clay soil where I live, which needs to be amended with organic matter but even more importantly needs to be amended for better drainage. To make new garden beda - I was buying bags of sand, topsoil, and soil conditioner (fine mulch) to mix into the clay. This coir material easily replaced the sand component and is a much lighter weight so easier to handle. Also, when my compost bin this year was getting very compacted and clumpy, I added a couple bricks of coir material and it improved the overall composition significantly.Since it's compact, it stores easier than bags of soil or sand, and I can mix up my own potting soil as needed.

This works great for my potted plants. I just set a brick in water and let it sit overnight. Then I have great coco coir to make my own potting mixes for my plants. The price is good for my plant budget also.

I have used much better quality cocoa coir bricks but I also paid more for them.To hydrate: I toss in brick in a two gallon bucket, fill the bucket with about a gallon-and-a-half of water and let it sit for at least 15 minutes. Give it a quick stir and it is ready to use.I purchased these blocks four times this spring and the quality has been consistent - not the best, but reasonable quality for a reasonable price.Coco coir is great for starting seeds and for full grown plants. Less bugs. Less stress on the plants. Keeps hydrated longer than potting soil in the summer's heat.My plants seem to be thriving, so I am happy.

Initially, I was going to give this a bad review as it didn't expand as other coconut coir bricks I've used. (Others expand instantly) Tjis fact makes this impossible to use as an immediate need item. Also, the texture is not as fine. Its a bit more course. Plus the sizes of the bricks are not as uniformly perfect either. Those are the negatives. However, after deciding to let one soak overnight to see if it would actually expand, ouilla! It worked! It gives you quite a bit of expansion. You could use this product as a mulch or as a soil ammendment because it's a bit more gritty. Others that are more fine tend to blow away in the wind. I have ordered more of brand that is more fine, like Peet moss is. Each product has its place!

I super love this product. I decided to buy it just to try it out and I love the fact that I only have to moisten one brick at a time as I need it. I had a big problem with soil gnats. All of my house plants got nuts and so I had to repot everything and so far I have had zero problems with gnats with this new product. It holds moisture, but it also dries out naturally, which is really great.Super super easy to work with. I literally have nothing bad to say about it. I have giant bags of soil and they are heavy and they get gnats but this is just super user-friendly and I can store it away safely and keep it dry and bug free.
