Works great for my turtles. It is "armored" with plastic protecting the heating element. It took about 5 hours to warm a 40 gallon tank from 49 degrees to 78 degrees.

I am using mine to keep my tropical fish warm. Seems to fit the bill

Bought several of this brand/type of heater for my son's turtle over the last 2 years. All of them have a very short shelf life. This last one only stayed working for just 31 days and died! Just 1 day over the returnable window! Could not get a refund! Not worth it! BUY ANOTHER BRAND OF HEATER!

I like that it adjusts temp and stays on bottom easier than oblong heaters. Only had it for a couple of weeks but it doing good so far.

I’ve had to replace this product 3 times. It worked nicely at first but this time around it’s lasted quite awhile and was sure i had faulty ones before. Last night I smelled something smokey in my room and saw that my tank was bubbling. The heater was short circuiting and definitely would have started a fire or explosion if I hadn’t smelled that. Thank god i was feeding my turtle in a separate tank at the time.

The specs state it will keep at constant 78*, but it runs between 78* and 80*. I guess it is within tolerance for my turtle, but if anything I wish it ran a bit under, as I know my turtle tolerated cooler water for a long time. It sure was the easiest, user-friendly heater to just plug and play, and though on the one hand I love the big digital temp readout to check at a glance, I find it annoying at night to see two big bright red spots (one is the reflection on side of tank). It produces an annoying whine sometimes — or at least I only notice it sometimes, but it’s not so bad as to replace it.

Im giving this a 2 star because of nosie and coil exposure. The heater heats the water however it makes clicking noises as its heating. I have my turtle tank in my bedroom and it is often and loud enough that it is quite annoying as well as concerning fofr my turtle's safety. FYI ZooMed people dont like heaters that sound like an old school electric heater heating up in their turtle tanks. Also the fins on the plastic cover could be closer spaced, there is enough room for my turtle to slip his foot or hand in and touch the electric range top coil you have in there. Ill be returning this

We had our two very large turtles in our pond in our back yard for years, only bringing then inside to winter over. Since we moved we had to keep them in a large tank year round. I have been searching for a good heater for ages. This design permanently set to 78 degrees seemed perfect, and it is. When I put it in the tank to my surprise the temperature was only 68 degrees. It has warmed up the water to a consistent temperature, and they love it. They spend more time in the water and less under the heat lamp.

After 3 months it started making a horrible sound, like it was about to blow up inside the tank. Of course this happened about 2 weeks after the return "window". I do not recommend getting this heater.

Works well, and my turtle has a really hard time removing it from glass.

Amazing heater. Works great. Given the design I thought it had a fan to move water - it does not. However will heat water within an hour or two when using fresh water.
