Update 8/25/24I had an idea to try to turn the handle in the opposite direction from one I always use. And it worked great. I can do that. So, it still works. I am not replacing it yet.Update 8/24/14This can opener has finally started to break. It lasted since 4/10/20. It opened about 2 cans a week on average.I feel if I was paying attention to the task at hand, and not allow it to "stray" from the path close to the edge, toward the center, and not rush it, it might not have broken.Certainly they could make an opener that one could use mindlessly, and not cause it to break. But this one lasted over 4 years. And with care, could maybe last more.Updated review, 4/3/22I have this can opener for about 2 years now. It still works the same as new: smooth, no sharp edges, easy to use.I attribute longevity of this product to the design: it locks it self before you turn the nob. This causes it to stay in grove, and not to take a bad trajectory which would cause it to bend and spread out and stop working right. It is not obvious that this product would work well and last a long time, from just looking at it. It looks like it is made from plastic.I really appreciate that someone took care to design for longevity. This is rare in our day and age. Companies seem to design for definite delayed demise instead.Old review, 4/10/20I had ordered a different one before, it worked well, but it broke. So I searched for something more rugged.I could not find what I was looking for.So I went with reviews, and bought this one. It is sweet. While it does not impress due to its plastic looks, it works very smoothly. And it locks it self into place, before one starts cranking on it. I believe this feature should make it last longer. Because my old one got messed up because I was not able to hold it completely shut, and caused it to choose a bad trajectory, which caused it to bend, despite the fact it was all metal. So good design in plastic, I feel will last longer then bad design in metal. And this one is much smoother and easier to crank then my previous all metal one.

I had one of these for 20 years, and it worked as well on the last day as it did on the first day. I took it to church to open a bunch of cans for a meal I was preparing, and it got lost in the church kitchen somehow. I was so upset that I immediately went online to see if I could find another one, and I did! I purchased this one, and I am so happy. I have an electric can opener, but I use this manual handheld one instead. This opener locks onto the cans very easily, and it's so easy to turn while it's cutting through the lid. The opener has a built-in latch that holds tight until you press the release button, and then, and only then, does it let go. I'm serious; this is the best can opener on the market today!!

I’ve found that I need to replace our can opener about once a year. I no longer expect a can opener to last forever. Having accepted that most can openers are going to break, then I have decided that I 1) will not overspend on a can opener and 2) I want one that is easy to operate. The Zyliss 20362 Lock N’ Lift can opener fits my criteria well. It is inexpensive. At under $12, if it last at least a year, it is only costing about one dollar per month. It is easy to operate. I like the locking feature. You unlock the red lever and the can opener can open up. It snaps on the can and opens the can very smoothly. I like the contoured handle, they fit nicely in my hand. There is a magnet which catches the lid and a plastic release which allows for easy removal of the lid. I do not use this feature. I think it is dangerous to completely remove the lid from a can. The unattached lid can be rather hazardous for anyone who inadvertently comes in contact with it. I much prefer to leave the lid attached slightly and bend the top in after removing the contents.I know the plastic parts are going to break sooner or later. You should not use unusual force with this can opener. If you experience resistance, move the opener around to a different spot on the can. Using extra force will only weaken or break the plastic parts

I bought this can opener five years ago and it has been the best can opener we have used. Unfortunately right at the five year mark almost to the day the lock button on top broke off. I figured I would send them a message just in case since the product has a five year warranty and to my surprise they responded quickly and said they will send a new can opener. I received the new can opener about a week later. I would highly recommend this product.

I had high hopes for this can opener. I'm in the kitchen a lot, so I like to have kitchen tools I can depend on to work reliably and consistently. I rarely used the magnet feature, and the locking feature became more of an annoyance due to how often the opener popped off the can and having to unlock and reapply.Pros:Stays sharp, smooth operation, extra safety features, aesthetically pleasing, and worked well at first, out-performing several other openers I did a side-by-side testing with.Cons:Not reliable, popped off the cans frequently. Eventually after opening and closing over and over to open a single can the red locking mechanism failed and popped off.I like the idea of this opener. Unfortunately it will go in the trash because it is no longer usable after owning for 1.5 years. Which is not long, considering I have had other less expensive can openers last decades.

This is a pretty good can opener. I like how when you pinch it down it you know that you have a secure fit on the can pretty easy rotate. It's really sharp nice little design. Make sure you push the red cap push button to unlock it. otherwise you could break it. It is some plastic in it.

This is sturdy, comfortable in my hand, locks in place, and compact in size. The little magnet doohickey at the bottom that is supposed to lift out any lids that are cut off completely is almost NEVER used, but when I have used it, it has worked ok - not 100% of the time, as I think the magnet is not that strong. But, I hate the standard can openers because my hands are rather small and I find the ones that are thin coated metal or all metal are very difficult to handle for me because they HURT my hands terribly. the Zyliss one has been the go to for me for the last several years because it is easy and comfortable and the locking mechanism is perfect. I have three not because any of them broke, but because I have two at home, and one for the cottage. Actually, it was 4 - but the mother in law got rid of one, because she thought it was extraneous at the cottage and kept the old style metal one that hurts my hand. But they tend to pick up fast food and stuff when going to the cottage and really, I am the one that does actual cooking - so the good utensils no get kept with our stuff separately. If you have small hands, or losing grip strength, this can opener is fantastic.
