There seems to be some confusion regarding what is included in this package of hydro-garden refills. I believe this is caused by conflicting photos and descriptions of the offering. The kit that I ordered, and received, included 30 each of plastic baskets, sponges, humidity domes, and labels. The text description did not mention fertilizers nor tweezers, which are mentioned in some of the ad's pictures. It looks like pictures and text may have been reused across several different variations of this kit leading to the confusion. The lesson being double check what you are ordering and let someone know if it is not right when it arrives. All the pieces included are standard size and should work with many different growing devices; they work with all 3 of my hydro-garden devices, one of which is a brand name "Aerogarden". There are little ribs under the top circle of the baskets and these are a slight different size from the Aerogarden ones, and they make the baskets sit a little higher in the holes on some of the growing platforms, but not enough as to make a difference in their operation. As with all such refill kits the sponges need to be soaked ahead of use to expand them to a proper size to fit the baskets. The plastic humidity domes fit nicely, and the labels are standard to shield the seeds from too much light until the germinating seeds reach seedling stage, with some true leaves. The baskets feel like stronger material than those included in other kits, and because of this they should be reusable if plants and used sponges are removed carefully. The domes also are reusable; the sponges are almost never reused, and the labels will probably need to be replaced after each growing cycle. For fertilizer, you can purchase some that is made specifically for hydro-gardens, but truthfully there are so many recipes available online that you can mix yourself and save on the cost. For this reason, I thought it a benefit to NOT include fertilizer in this kit to keep the cost low.

This hydro-garden refill kit is a solid deal—30 baskets, sponges, humidity domes, and labels, all the basics you need. The baskets are a little different from brand-name ones, but they fit and work just fine. Just soak the sponges so they expand, pop everything into place, and you’re good to go.No fertilizer included, which honestly makes sense. Tons of DIY recipes out there, and skipping it keeps the price down. The labels help block light to cut down on algae, and the sponges soak up water and nutrients just as well as the expensive ones.I’ve got basil growing with this kit right now, and it’s thriving. If you want an easy, budget-friendly way to keep your hydro setup going, this does the trick.

I got these to grow some plugs in the top of my aquarium. They're worked fine for that with a little rigging to make pod holders out of Styrofoam. The grow blocks are fine and the cups are good. They worl as they should I like the the little domes to keep new seedlings moist until their roots reach down. Handy little set to get started.

these kits are basically all the same so I focus on how many items per dollar amount and this kit was one of the best deals. I've tried other brands and really we are working with some very basic materials that do not differentiate much between brands. The quality of this kit is more than acceptable and for the number of growing pods you get, it was a no brainer and worth it. Other than that, nothing new, they just work and hydroponic gardening is the way to go especially here in the north east in the dead of winter !

I have to figure out how they are turning coco-coir into a spongey material. It's very interesting and I just started a bunch of seeds so I look forward to telling you how they work in comparison to other conventional methods and mediums. I will come back to update you on that after I have had more time to review them, but they seem like a very clean and easy-to-work-with material.

I kind of misread the description as universal for any hydroponic system. As a newbie to this, I thought that perhaps there were universal sizes based on optimal plany growth conditions. I have a Growell system, and it is definitely too big for the holes in my system. With that said, I can re-use my plastic holders for the sponges, and with some trimming to the top of the sponges, I made it work. The fertilizer solutions being included makes this a good value for me even if I can't use everything in the kit. Based on other comments, it seems like it fits great with the homeleafy system. The sponges do work with Growell with some creative trimming, the clear covers fit over my pod holes, the fertilizer is great, and I just trim the sticker diameter a little bit. I'll probably keep using this brand fertilizer and I now have enough sponges I can easily use for a long time. I recommend this kit.

These sponges don't perfectly fit into the particular brand of hydroponic setup that I use, but it doesn't matter- they work GREAT. Plants know what to do, regardless of how we grow them. They fit well enough, and they cost less than the particular brand that is recommended for my system. These sponges and the accessories that accompany them absorb water and nutrients and promote soilless root growth just as well as any other sponges. The kit comes with support cages and with adhesive stickers for blocking light that promotes algae growth. I am currently growing basil that I will soon transfer to a soil plot.
