The surface of the roller is very smooth, which can greatly reduce the frictional damage to the strings.
The roller string retainer ensures that the strings will not become loose or shift, protecting the strings, bridge and guitar body from being damaged by friction.
The string retainer makes the contact between the strings and the guitar body more intimate, ensuring that the strings maintain appropriate tension and keeping the pitch and tone stable.

These are absolutely great. I got the chrome finish with brass rollers, put one on my strat and one on my tele. They look and work great and are super solid on the headstock. This and locking tuners completely fixed the tuning stability issues on my Stratocaster. I put a drop of mineral oil on each one to lubricate the shaft that connects the two rollers. I am thinking about buying another set to keep in the parts drawer for other guitar projects, even on a non-tremolo bridge they work great to dress up an inline 6 guitar.

I have ordered these twice and have been very pleased both times. The are actual rollers not just slides that look like they roll. Well made with a high quality finish! A tiny droplet of light oil and they're ready to roll! Remember to lube the screw threads with bees wax or chap stick prior to mounting!

I purchased this set of guitar string guides, which comes with two pieces. Unfortunately, one of the guides arrived with the roller part bent, making it unusable. While the other guide is fine, I expected both to be in proper condition.
