This antistatic mat is huge! It can cover a lot of surface area. I actually got this huge mat with the intention of cutting it into smaller pieces for several smaller work areas. It’s just a rubber mat, which seems a lot like some variety of neoprene to me. It’s only 1.5mm thick, and although I haven’t cut it yet, it seems like it would be easy to cut if desired. The black rubber is indeed conductive, and with my multimeter I measure about 20 megaohms of resistance with the probes about 1cm apart (it actually varies from about 10Mohm to 40 Mohm with my measurements). The top green layer is NOT conductive, so you can run your circuits directly on it without worry. The seller’s page seems a bit wrong about this, since it shows the same resistivity for both materials. But I assure you, the green top layer is not conductive enough to register on my meter at all.I didn’t test the heat resistance, but I’ll take their word for it. One thing it doesn’t do is connect to earth ground, like most ESD mats do. It’s just a conductive mat that doesn’t accumulate charge, but it doesn’t shunt that charge to ground via an earth connection. That’s fine, but I just want all the Amazon shoppers to know this. You could easily alligator clip a ground connection to it, if desired. I will often be placing this mat on top of another grounded ESD mat (that isn’t heat resistant for soldering), so I’m not really worried about this. I’m giving this mat 5 stars.
