It is a very simple device. No sound = bad. There is no switch so you have to test with it as you are checking for ESD (ie, no way to continuously monitor)

I tried to turn this thing on after putting in the correct battery, but there was nothing written in the instructions on how to use it. I tried connecting it to my wrist strap and the ESD mat, but I was getting any indicators to light up. I'm giving two stars because maybe I just didn't configure it correctly or maybe I just got a defective unit.

Well it seems to work for me. Tested my table and straps and had good continuity between them all and then check with this and verified that it was working

I have zapped more than one memory chip through my invisible nemesis, static electricity. And I was always wearing my wrist strap. I think this is a fantastic tool. A quick touch to make sure that you are properly grounded.But it takes a 9v battery. Why? When we can plug everything directly into usb, or charge built-in batteries via USB, why did they shove in an expensive battery that you can *never* find in your tool box/battery case/junk draw? That is more than slightly irritating, but aside from that, this is a great product and an asset to any bench.
