When an airlock bubbles, it simply means that the air pressure inside the bucket or carboy is sufficiently high to push up the little column of water and relieve the pressure.
- f it fails to bubble, all it means is that the pressure within the fermenter isn’t high enough to make it do so. This can easily happen if the lid isn’t fully closed, or if the seal isn’t perfect.

- For those of you not very familiar with Airlocks, this is a device that is needed when brewing things like beer, wine, meads, etc.
- You just fill with 1/2 or 1/3 water, pop on the cap, and plug it into your fermentation vessel.
- The airlock will allow the gas from the fermentation to escape while keep air and contaminants out.
- An airlock just *feels* more professional, and is reusable, and is far less susceptible to clogging.

So these are nice and much more durable than the others due to the harder material used. Their only downfall is they don't come with the lids and they are extremely tight in the grommets. I don't know if I'll be ordering more because of this issue. However those grommets might be worth it. The grommets are well made with a more durable material that won't tear the first time you use them. I really like that. If they came with pre drilled lids, this would be a perfect product.

I liked how heavy duty this airlock is handled a violent fermentation from a 5 gallon batch pretty well.

I bought this item after reading many of the reviews, many said that the airlock was hard to install in the rubber after it was installed into a lid. All I can say is if you drill the hole a little bigger than the inside diameter of the rubber grommet the airlock will fit perfectly. The airlock works just as it should and I have them in the lids of my plastic 2 gallon fermenter buckets.
