I needed to replace my anode, and being on a well with a water softener opted to go with magnesium instead of aluminum for better protection. I realize this will wear out faster than aluminum, but that is what it is supposed to do. This rod seems solidly built and it is nice that it comes with the necessary socket, since it is a larger size that many standard socket sets may not have. The price is way better than rods you find at local hardware stores, if you can find magnesium at all.

I was able to loosen the factory anode rod on my AO Smith hybrid water heater using a breaker bar and two 12 inch extensions to clear the heat pump system. The rod unscrewed easily with a regular ratchet after that. The problem started when I tried to install this new anode and found that I could only get one thread started before it became almost impossible to turn. Upon closer examination I realized that during the manufacturing process they painted the threaded cap and also painted the threads. After cleaning the threads with a wire wheel on my bench grinder the installation was easy! This anode rod seems to be well made and I was able to cut the bottom segment off to make the length 36" which is the size my heater calls for. I like that the kit includes the required 27 mm socket and a generous roll of thread sealing tape. I would buy this kit again.

Easy install. Easy to straighten the stainless braided lines between segments.Include the correct socket for install. Hardest thing was to break loose the old anode rod from the water heater. It was not quite five years old, and totally depleted.

If you can’t remember the last time you replaced your anode rod, this is your sign that it’s overdue!This is a great option with a great price, I comes with Teflon tape for a good seal and even more impressive it comes with the 1 1/16†socket that you’ll need to remove the old rod and install this one!Highly recommend!

Great price. Easy to install if you can get the old one out. Replaced one on a 15 year old water heater. The old one was completely eaten up.
