This bulb planter is sturdy and seems like it would work well with normal soils but my Kona coffee farm soil is full of small rocks and this does not push through them. I wanted to plant young coffee trees but a spade is easier. It does call it a bulb planter and I think it would be good for that if you have the usual deep soils.

I used this device in moist soil. It worked as advertised, easily bore the hole with slight foot pressure and dirt cores pressed out using the attached extractor. I originally bought a small hand tool to plant my bulbs, but it took too much pressure on my wrist. Glad I bought this, it’s a good value.

This item's sturdy workmanship and well-considered design left an impression on me. One of the most notable features is the long handle, which enables me to work without putting pressure on either my back or my knees. This is a big benefit for anybody who spends a large amount of time doing gardening tasks. Because it is ergonomically constructed, the handle offers a pleasant grip, which reduces the amount of fatigue experienced during extended usage. Making use of the gadget was a cakewalk. The process of drilling holes for planting bulbs was one that I found to be especially beneficial. The pointed end is able to easily penetrate the dirt, and the long handle offers tremendous leverage, which makes the operation far simpler than it would be if it were performed with a conventional hand trowel. In addition, the soil sampler feature is quite useful since it enables me to evaluate the quality of the soil without having to disrupt a wide area. I believe that gardeners who are particularly concerned about the health of the soil will find this feature to be extremely helpful.

I wanted to use this for pulling plugs of grass and replacing dead spots with live plugs. My yard is 100% sand, so digging is never a problem. But it was nearly impossible to take a plug of live grass. There is only foot pedal on one side. You can’t jump on it with both feet, and pushing it in by hand will not work. Getting it to cut through fairly soft wet grass was very difficult.I took 3 plugs. Had to use a hammer on the top to get it to go in. It worked, but completely crushed the thin hollow handle flat.I know this particular one is only advertised as a bulb planter, and I’m sure it would work fine for that task. (As long as the soil is soft enough to dig with your hands)

Very sturdy and easy to put together. I'm really glad I bought this and not one from Home D. store.

Got this to get grass plugs out to reuse after we have septic work done. St Augustine grass. The description says it's made to use for this purpose. Nope. Not only is it not sharp enough to dig into grass without using brute strength and even then it takes more than one attempt, but it doesn't dig deep enough and doesn't pull out a whole plug. Basically, it would be fine for planting flowers in a bed....that's it, though. Returning. If you need to dig sod plugs, rent something from local nursery or buy a heavier duty tool.
