Bought this to transplant zoysia grass. Works great. Easily remove the plug with a push of your foot. Assembly was a breeze. Plug housing teeth are sharp and rugged.

This tool is made from heavy-duty steel and has a powder coating paint. Simplistic in design, I could tell this was made to last for a long time when I unpacked it. The plugging tool came mostly assembled, only needing the handles screwed into the sides. Handles are extremely comfortable and are as durable as the body.I transplanted several plugs of St Augustine into barren places as a test. The hole for each St Augustine plug was replaced by a plug from the countering hole dug out in the barren area. The round plugs fit almost like a puzzle piece. The plugs from barren ground were turned up-side-down so any residual dead grass was buried, and the loose soil on top would allow the surrounding St Augustine to quickly fill in the area. The plugs were watered in to fill in small gaps at the sides.Stepping on the side pedals of the plugging tool to inject into the hard soil was difficult because the tool wound lean to one side, I was able to work the tool into the soil by alternately stepping on each side until the tool was to the hilt. It was easy to get off-balance because I had to put a lot of weight to get the cutter to penetrate the hard soil.I soon learned that if I started the tool into the soil on each side a bit with my foot, I could then put light pressure onto the handles and twist the tool for the teeth on the cylinder to cut into the soil. I was much more stable using this method. The center pedal did not have enough clearance for my foot to fit between the supporting rods, so I could only use my toes on the edge of that pedal to eject the plugs. This action would force the tool to one side, making it difficult to hold in place. I discovered that is was much easier if I lean the tool on the ground at an angle, hold my foot against the center pedal, and pull on the handle to release the plug. The tool worked great once I discovered how to use it without fear of losing my balance. I’ll definitely use it next spring to plant some bulbs and shrubs. Hope this information is helpful.

The handles being separate pieces makes me hesitant to use my full weight with this tool but otherwise the construction seems solid. It being winter I've had some trouble testing it with the cold-frozen ground but it has performed admirably nonetheless. The design of the center isn't great for folks with larger feet but the pedal extends just far enough to give some leverage for such folks.

This tool is a great addition to our lawn care gear. Dolibest Sod Plugger is heavy duty - made from steel with a great gray mottled powder coat on it. I only had to attach the handles to start using this sod plugger.Operation is pretty intuitive - it looks like a pogo stick with two handles sticking out and two “steps†at the bottom - one on either side of the center plug-making section. The bottom of the plugger is serrated to cut through vegetation and harder soil with ease.I used this in our front yard where we have sections of grass that are high quality, good weed control and good root system v sections of clover, weeds and bare patches. I started by taking a plug out of the destination section and putting that in a 5 gallon bucket then moved to my source section and carefully creating a plug of our “good grassâ€. I deposited the good grass plug directly into the hole I’d just made. A friend told me to put a plug about every foot, and this made my task really easy! The serrated plugger bites into the soil, severing roots to create a nice compact plug. Once I get it to the destination, I push the center pedal down and the plug seats perfectly into the hole. What a great timesaver and money saver - the cost of plugs for our lawn were not going to be cheap, and there was no guarantee they’d arrive soon after harvesting or that they’d live and grow. Using our own is free and I don’t know why they won’t grow and start choking out the existing non-grass vegetation.
