Whether you wax one pair or a family's worth of skis at a time, these make the brake retaining step so much easier (and potentially safer.) In my case, I can offload the brake task to my young son safely without worrying about pinched fingers or a rubber band in the eye. These are just ridiculously good for the money.

I used to use the rubber bands. These are so much better.

Thought these would be better than rubber bands, nope! The velco isn't strong enough to hold back the brake, the velcro just separates under pressure.

Brake retainers are used when one is doing tuning work on one's skis, e.g., waxing or sharpening. The retainers keep the brakes out of the way so that the entire bottom or edge can be worked on without hinderance. These. brake retainers do not do anything that a piece of cord or an old shoelace cannot do, but they do it well and possibly easier and more quickly. The retainers are reasonably-well constructed of 3/4" polypropylene straps with loops sewn at each end (see photo). Each strap is about 15 1/2" long with two connecting velcro strips (i.e., a fuzzy strip and a hook strip), each about 5" long. The velcro strips are well-secured at the loop ends and are sewn along their lengths, but are not sewn across on their open ends. I said, "reasonably-well constructed" because from past experience with velcro, I suspect that this could be a source of failure in the future. It would be better if the velcro ends were fully stitched through at both ends in addition to their loop ends. The retainers did not come with any instructions, but using them is relatively straightforward. One passes a loop through one of the brake ends, passes the retainer around the upper part of the binding and around the other brake arm, securing it with the velcro. For my tuning work at home on my skis and friends' skis, these are good straps. I'm pleased to have them as a part of my tuning kit. They are not essential, but they're good to have; and regardless of ski styles they should be a lifetime investment.

I wax/tune 4-6 pairs of skis multiple times a week and never really thought of a different option to using the typical 'rubber bands' to restrain the brakes. Since the skis are a mix of kids/adults, normal/race skis I often have to fiddle around with the 'rubber bands' to get the ski brake out of the way properly. When these binding brake retainers arrived they sat on the garage shelf for a week before I decided to try them. More foolish me for waiting a week. They are an instant game changer. It seems really silly to think about how a piece of velcro fabric can revolutionize tuning skis but that is what happened. It is just so much easier to retain the ski brakes, doesn't matter if they are kids skis, adult skis, race skis etc.I'm never going back to the rubber bands.....

Only used once so far but they work efficiently good hold (no breakaway in luggage on flights) easy to put on and less struggle that bands - happy
