I purchased a Rockville 8 in 400 w household subwoofer and I got it on sale for like $120. Here is an image of the sub I took out but since the box is designed with a reinforcement board on the inside I had to flip the sub outward in order to fit inside the Rockville box. I'm not throwing any parties with the subwoofer just for low frequency referencing when I produce or enjoy a couple tracks from time to time.

I'm an electrical engineer and a huge car audio and home theater enthusiast. I had my pic between an 8-in, a 10-in, and a 12-inch version of the subwoofer. I'm doing a project where I wanted a small subwoofer so I chose the 8 in.Here are the very need T/S ParametersCone Diameter from center of surround: 6.12 InchRe: 1.663 OhmFs: 55.38 HzQ(ts): 0.5816Q(es): 0.6305Q(ms): 7.508Le: 0.4579 mHM(ms): 100.9 gV(as): 0.1465 ft3estimated Xmax 0.4-0.45 inch (1 way linear excursion)When I got the subwoofer it surprised me. It has a thick high surround with a pretty stiff suspension, so that it can handle the power. It has a very large thick magnet and the subwoofer is fairly deep compared to other 8-in subs that I've had. They have a nice pool vent in the back and under the spider they have slots to expose the voice coil. It has a nice deep long former with a long voice coil and I would say that this subwoofer is a mid to long throw. I estimated the x-max to be somewhere between 0.4 and 0.45 in which is pretty good for an 8 in sub.Testing:I took a small Yamaha 8-in home theater subwoofer out of its box and placed this one in it instead and played some music and was surprised at how deep the sub could get even though the subwoofer has a very high FS free air resonant frequency. The box was tuned pretty high at like 50 Hz, but given how stiff the suspension is, it still could play deep, unloaded without worry of over driving. I probably was only pushing 150W, at it handled it with ease.I have not verified it's 350W rating. Ignore all MAX Power ratings as they are BS and useless. The subwoofer's free-air resonance is less important then how the enclosure is built and what the port tuning is built to.I measured the TS parameters with a Dayton Audio DATS V3 system.I then modeled what the box response would look like using Win ISD using a 0.5 cubic feet box tuned to 37 HZ. The response looks like and based on some quick testing would probably sound pretty decent. I will try and update this review once I actually build a box for it.I will probably have to make the port opening much bigger and then longer to avoid port chuffing. Also, the group delay is pretty high as well.Overall, don't under estimate this sub. For an audiophile, it has exceeded my expectations so far. I'm planning on accompanying this with the 2.1 DIY board built off of 2x TPA3255 chips (with 1 of them combined the outputs to support 2 ohm subs). I'm going to be powering them with a 40V Li-Ion power tool battery pack and the amp will be able to drive about 250W off of a battery! It's going to be portable, and the loudest, cleanest most powerful bluetooth battery powered speaker setup.

this shallow mount thumper be hittin them low notes like a boss while still lettin you keep your trunk space for them groceries n such. the dual 4 ohm setup gives you mad flexibility with your amp matchin, and that 1200 watt power handlin be no joke when you really wanna wake up them neighbors. while it might not dig quite as deep as them super thicc subs, for a slim design this bad boy still delivers them clean, punchy bass lines that'll make your rear view mirror dance.

Honestly, I thought this was going to be disappointing. While the results don't defy all logic, it does sound pretty darn good. I haven't built the perfect box for it yet, just dropped it in a prefab that was pretty close to spec. I ignore the max power rating, as you should. I connected it to a JL 500/1 and was very pleasantly surprised with the output. This may very well become the sub that I will be putting in my custom front to rear F150 center console after converting the rear bench to dual bucket. I love when you take a leap and it pays off.

For its size and, most importantly, its price, it produces great low bass, and it's a great budget-friendly subwoofer. You aren't going to win spl competitions with this, but you will get a great subwoofer that hits hard for what it is.If you're in the market for an 8-inch subwoofer, consider giving this one a try for the price; you get quite a capable subwoofer.
