A faulty vehicle relay or circuit may create an intermittent fault or a continuous hard fault no matter what circuit it may operate.
When Should relay Be Serviced?
To check if a relay is faulty, you need alligator clips, test leads, and a benchtop power supply or a 12V battery. Relays can be found under the hood inside the fuse box or under the dashboard, depending on the relay you want to find.
Checking a relay involves connecting pins 85 and 86 to a battery or power source. As the circuit is completed, the relay should make an audible click.
An easy way to check if a relay is bad is to replace a relay with a new unit, if you have one lying around. But be careful: just because a relay looks the same doesn’t mean it’s the right one. If the part works with the proper replacement relay, then the previous relay is faulty.
How dose relay work?
Car relays can generate magnetic force through the coil, which is passed by an electrical current. The magnetic force generated by the relay coil will connect terminals 30 and 87. This happens because the magnetic force on the relay coil pulls at the contact point. This pull makes both terminals connect automatically

I used this relay to fix our trailer lights. The truck turning lights worked just fine but after hooking up a trailer to the seven way plug they would stop. I found there was an issue with the relay. Once installing this relay in the truck the turning lights started working again.

Ordered this (4) Pack of Multi Purpose Relay Compatible with Ford F-150 for my 2006 Ford F-150.Past few weeks my truck lights (all) would just suddenly black out (nothing) for just a bit, but could turn off ignition and start truck again and they all would work again. I ask a friend that is a mechanic, he advised a starter relay fuse was probably breaking down and not working at times. He also advised that's the way these type relays do at times when they start going bad. While shopping online for wiper blades for my truck, I saw this (4) pack of relays that fits my truck and ordered them. My friend took his tester to find out which one was bad as there are multiple relays. He found only one bad and replaced it with one of these new ones. Must have fixed my problem as no lights black out since. He advised that was more than likely the problem as the one replaced tested had zero voltage on it. Now I keep the extra (3) relays in my glove compartment, just in case this happens in the future again. Happy with order
