You know, it's a pain to take your laptop with you to Starbucks or your favorite coffee shop when you need to use the restroom or refill your coffee. However, it is handy in a public library as long as you have a table or desk where you can run the cable and lock your laptop. This works well on my 16-inch Macbook Pro laptop computer, even with plastic protecting covers.

We got these as we just opened a store and wanted security for our laptops they work great and are easy to use but I only put 4 stars just because when I have my laptop with a case it made the little arms that hug the screen tight and caused it to damage my screen but later on I got it fixed and put it back without the case and I haven’t had any problems.

This product works. I just wish the clamps are metal and not plastic. If this was half the price, I can live with plastic.

I like the design except for the use of plastic on the side clamps. It looks to me that it would be very easy to snap the plastic ends with a pair of channel locks or lineman pliers. They went with metal for the arms that extend and then put plastic at the ends. I suppose this might be fine for a work environment if you've got your laptop in your cubicle but I think the corner braces or end brackets, whatever you want to call them should be made with magnesium dock plate material or some other sort of strong lightweight alloy. I don't feel comfortable relying on plastic to secure my information.

I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND YOU DO NOT BUY THIS LOCK. Here is why:When you buy any lock you want to be sure it is made of METAL. Plastic shrouds to cover metal is OK but if you’re going to design a locking bar to secure a laptop you have to be sure the anchor points are all secure enough. This AboveTEK locking bar has metal - the only piece is the display bar and everything else including the most important piece: the anchor feet are all plastics. This is a major deal breaker in itself.Because it’s just basic ABS plastic, you can simply pry it off whatever you bolt it down to. You can simply even crack it easily and the entire lock design will be disabled. The cost of this unit makes this entire build completely unworthy of a recommendation. See my included images for more details.The lock itself is some 8-point ball design and when you lock and unlock it is difficult to do as well because it’s just a really bad lock quality. The cable is metal and quite lengthy ~6ft but it’s thin; sole purpose is to use it as a DETERRENT. I’m not going to explain the many ways in which you can defeat these types of locking devices but the fact it’s made of PLASTIC using PLASTIC anchor legs is just bad security design. The legs should be solid METAL. Everything about this lock design is flimsy and does not give you a sense of security at all.As with any display lock design type you have to remember not to fold down your display or else you’re going to crack that glass panel. The laptop screen will sit a bit beyond 90 degrees but not much more. This makes it also uncomfortable to use sitting upright on a table. Aside from the anchor feet being plastic the hinges themselves are also PLASTIC! The only part that is solid metal connected to the frame is the Kensington lock on the left side of the anchor foot. That is a solid plastic hole but has a metal frame backing so your lock can be secured. But that’s pointless because once you break those plastic anchor legs off you’re going to slid that laptop display right off the locking mechanism.

Lock feels very sturdy and well made but is definitely not a universal fit. Intended to use this with my son's ASUS ROG Strix Scar 16 gaming laptop - but the lock doesn't fit with that laptop's form factor even with the lock clips swapped out for the larger version they include.It does fit well on my 13" Dell XPS laptop, so any slim chassis laptop should work as long as the rear vents/battery area doesn't extend past the screen when the lid is open.

Purchased this to secure my laptop during Karaoke/DJ nights and whilst it seems a little bit fiddly to get into the lock it worked perfectly.It is universal as it adjusts to fit the laptop, it's lightweight whilst being sturdy and there is enough length on the cable to make securing it easy.
