Item is described as having strong ball bearings. The surface is smooth and has a finish to it. I don’t want slivers in my hands or food. These things matter when rolling out pie crust and sugar cookies. This should provide many years of use for someone like me that likes to bake.

Because I don't always use my tools properly in the kitchen such as using my rolling pin to pound out meat between parchment paper. I really needed a new rolling pin and this one matches my old one almost perfectly and the price was right. You can't beat it. It's really made well.
