This is a review of the AcuRite 06054M Solar Radiation ShieldI know this shield was designed to hold and protect the AcuRite brand sensors, but I bought it in the hope that it would hold my La Crosse brand temperature/weather sensors, and I’m happy to report that the La Crosse sensors fit perfectly.Whoever designed these solar shields knew what they were doing, when they fitted them with a simple, but clever securing system, consisting of a membrane of flexible plastic located just below the top interior of the plastic shield. The sensor is inserted upright into the cowbell-shaped shield, through the open base of the shield. The La Crosse sensors are just under 5.75†high, and the shield measures about 6.5†from it’s base to it’s interior dome. The membrane that holds the sensor in place is located approximately 0.5†below the interior dome. This is just enough space to allow the “ears†of the membrane to surround and establish a decent grip on the top of the sensor. As noted earlier, the membrane is flexible, but it’s just firm enough to get a decent grip on the sensor. This permits both easy installation and removal of the sensor. The shield’s overlapping louvers allow air to flow through it, while keeping sun, rain and snow away from the sensor. There are several ways to mount the shield: by utilizing the built-in plastic loop at the top exterior of the shield, it can be affixed to a shepherd’s pole, or hung from a tree branch via a monofilament, or other, line; or by using the slotted tabs located near the top rear of the shield, to hang it on a wall, or a tree, via a nail or screw. The shield only weighs about 7.75 ounces (empty), so it doesn’t take much to hold it in place.I would have purchased the La Crosse brand solar radiation shield, since I have La Crosse brand sensors, but they were no longer available, as of this writing. Overall, I’m happy with the AcuRite shields, even though they are a little bit pricier than I had hoped.I’ve submitted a few photos, some of which I’ve labeled. I hope they help answer a few questions that you might have.

Purchased this item before to house an AcuRite brand outdoor sensor and protect it from the elements. It is attached to the back of my shed where it is protected from sun and somewhat from weather. It has held up for several years. The plastic hasn't become brittle and I have removed the sensor a few times to replace batteries. I was concerned that the plastic clip inside this housing would eventually break or become brittle from the repeated yanking in and out of the sensor but it is just as good as the day I put it up. Compared to the brand new one, the only thing I noticed was that the older one has yellowed just a bit. In the photo, the old is on the left and new on the right. Here's the best part. Some other brands of outdoor sensors have a similar shape and design and fit perfectly into this housing. Because I now have two weather stations, and they are two different brands, I can see that they are very accurate, or at least within a point or 2 of one another. I was able to test the best location and can say that exposure to sun, even a small bit, will drastically increase the outdoor temperature reading. If it is placed too close to the ground, the humidity tends to read higher as well. I use metal siding clips to hang these solar shields from the back of my shed which has double-lap siding and receive the metal clips easily. Once they're hung, there is no movement that I've noticed from wind or weather.

Arrived quickly and in great condition. Installed over the remote sensor on my AcuRite Weather Station and it really does protect the sensor from direct sunlight and rain, yet allows air to free flow through it to the sensor. The wildlife doesn’t mess with it either!!!!

Bad News: The full price of this sun shield is more than any of the sensors it is designed to protect. The color of the plastic is not full white.Good News: It occasionally goes on sale for $10 to $15 less. It well protects the sensors. The off-white color hides the pollution a little longer that will darken the plastic over time, if you don't clean it every few months.

I needed something to keep the sun off of the outdoor monitor and this works perfectly.

Purchased this shield in addition to AcuRite 02049 Digital Thermometer with Indoor/Outdoor Temperature. Finding a shaded, yet open air location for the remote sensor can be difficult. Kudos to AcuRite for offering this product. Simply snap the remote sensor (sold with your AcuRite thermometer) into the shield and mount per the instructions... either by the top hook or wall mount. Construction is sturdy, and it blocks direct sunlight from affecting temp readings while allowing airflow through the shield. Only downside is the price, but if accuracy is your top priority, then this is a must-have!

AccuWeather products are great. I highly recommend this product. It helps keep the UV heat off the sensor for a more accurate reading. pretty mush matches what the local news outlets show. I placed mine in a tree. But will hang from any hook. well-made durable plastic that is colored white. If you hang the sensor without this radiation shield the sun will affect it badly give you very high temp readings. I recommend you get this if you are trying to record the temperature correctly. arrived in a well packed box conmes in one piece you simply slide sensor up inside it and it snaps right in, no hassle whatsoever. also comes with easy-to-follow instructions.

I don't use this for an Accurite sensor. I have a Traceable indoor outdoor thermometer that has a sensor on a 10 ft wire. The wire runs under the window, and the sensor hangs in this radiation shield which prevents unreliable temperature swings. Works perfectly.

Good looking like most of outdoor remote temperature sensors will fit. It is a lot cheaper than its comptitor selling similar seller similar on Amazon. I took a gamble and I think made the best choice. Good recommended seller

I bought this for an Ecowitt WH32 temperature/humidity sensor. After a bit of modification, it fits nicely. I removed the plastic clip meant to hold AcuRite's sensor and replaced it with a bit of 18 gauge wire, then used another bit of wire to create a hook for the sensor to hang it off the first wire. This way, when I need to replace the sensor's batteries, I can just unhook it without any disassembly. It's been keeping the sun, rain, and snow off the sensor for over a year and shows no sign of wear or yellowing. The hole on the top is just large enough for a 15" hanging plant bracket from Canadian Tire (059-5696-6), which keeps the sensor from reading heat from my house in -40 winters. If I ever need another one (greenhouse?) I'd order this one again.

I was sceptical, but I placed a Yolink outdoor thermometer in the unit and placed it in an appropriate location in the garden. The unit seems to protect the thermometer from the sun"s heating, whilst still allowing airflow, and I am getting accurate readings. The internal space is large enough to fit your thermometer, even ones not designed for this unit. Smaller ones, like Yolink, just needed some cableties to hold it in place. It all seems to work as it should.I highly recommend this product and seller.
