For years I wanted a weather station. At first, I did not want to deal with hard wiring the unit which is solved with these wireless models. Plus, they were expensive and now they are reasonable. This unit met my specifications and has exceeded my expectations. Now, after having the unit for 7 months, contacting support and adding another LCD display, I am ready to write a review.1. The unit is nicely packed and easy to unpack and assemble. Total assembly time was under 10 minutes.2. The instruction manual in really great. Some manuals have scant details, others are so long and detailed they confuse most. This manual is clearly written. Perfect length. Pictures match copy and language is easy to follow and understand.3. From the time I opened the box until the unit was fully functional was under 1 hour. This includes mounting in backyard.4. I bought this pole at Amazon and highly recommend: 5 Piece Feeder Pole Set with Twist-in Ground Socket by Erva Tool and Die. I actually put this pole into the ground at 9PM one summer night and it took about 10 minutes.5. You need to download the Ambient app to connect/set-up the unit to your house WIFI and another app to actually enjoy the features (wind, temperature, rain, humidity) of the weather station. My unit did not connect first time to WIFI. Maybe I made a typo, but second time was fine. Again, easy to follow instructions in app. The weather station unit now for sale had a software upgrade about a year ago. So issues with connecting to 2.4 WIFI networks were resolved and I had no issues. So ignore folks who raised this as an issue.6. You then connect the LCD display to the outside weather station unit and WIFI (as I recall) and it starts working right away.7. I also created an account at the Ambient website so I can see remotely on both the Ambient web site via a web browser and via the Ambient iPhone app – I use an iPhone and it works great.8. I also connected to Weather Underground and downloaded the Weather Underground and PWS Monitor iPhone apps so I can see my weather station. With PWS you can see other weather stations nearby.9. I have contacted Ambient support twice. Both times I got an answer in hours! Really great support. In fact, I wanted to add a second LCD display in my house and had a question and a follow-up question. Again, both times Ambient responded in hours. And I think one time they added a page to their excellent support pages with a picture to help me further. Now this is awesome support!10. You can also add alerts and get an e-mail/text if you get > xx rain in an hour (so I can check my sump pumps as an example), if it is really hot or cold inside or outside (if inside it would mean an issue with HVAC perhaps), so some nice 'security/peace of mind' type features.11. I enjoy seeing the various displays and checking locally and remotely. I have recommended this unit to a few people who are also really happy.I would highly recommend this unit. It works. Seems nicely calibrated when I compare to other devices and units in area, clean display and like I said – excellent support and instruction manual. Super easy to install and set-up.

I purchased this unit in 2023 to monitor weather at our vacation home. It’s worked flawlessly ever since. The setup was easy and integration with Weather Underground was seamless. I also setup the unit on the Ambient Weather Network without any problems. I like the fact that you can set alerts for things like wind gusts and temperature ranges. I have shared our weather stations remote viewing capabilities with friends and neighbors and they all said how helpful it is to be able to monitor conditions. I don’t think there is. Better mid-range weather station available. The display panel is bright and is capable of being powered by the supplied ac/dc converter cable. It also has battery backup. Very happy with this purchase.

I have a lot of fruit trees in my backyard plus a rose and lavender garden. Wanted to keep on top of local weather conditions so if needed I could protect my plantings from cold etc...I decided to go with Ambient Weather's WS-2902D. It includes a temperature module, anemometer, wind direction, wind speed and rain gauge. The most time consuming part of installation was the mount itself. The instruction for mounting the weather station to the top of a mast are well described and a simple job of attaching the U Bolts with screws and using the bubble level (built in to the top of the unit) to keep the device level. You must make sure that the arrow embedded on top of the hard plastic of the unit is pointed exactly to the north. Double check that. I used a compass app on my phone. Worked great. I chose to mount my station on 1.5" PVC pipe. Yes, they recommend steel but go out and try to price that! Ridiculous. The weather station accepts 1.25-2 inch pipe. My 5 foot section was installed on a deck support with the help of an antenna mounting kit purchased on Amazon. Hard steel and strong U Bolts. That thing is screwed in for life. The only drawback with PVC is the wind. This can cause movement of the station affecting readings. I am a ham radio operator and used identical 1/8" black rope (parachute like cord) that i have hanging a wire dipole between 2 trees on my property. For the weather station I made 3 guy rope supporting lengths that you can see in the picture. There are two in this picture. I put in the 3rd down at ground level a few days later. Now, there is no and i mean NO movement of the pole with high wind gusts. The height of the deck plus the pvc tubing puts the weather station at 18 feet above the ground. There are two caveats: Make your weather station accessible. You have to clean out the rain gauge apparatus every couple of months plus swap out batteries; so you do not want to kill yourself dangling off of a ladder. BTW, the unit is powered with a solar cell built into the top part of the station. Batteries are used when there is insufficient daylight. The weather station immediately connected with the base unit. I have the console sitting on my home office desk. Connecting the unit to wifi and weather underground, weather cloud and the Ambient site take time but well worth it in the end. I periodically check other units in my neck of the woods on the Ambient website. The console display is well laid out and easy to see all parameters. It is pretty intuitive trying to figure out what button does what but it is a good idea to read through all the instructions. The display also shows, UV light, light, phases of the moon, indoor temp and humidity, outdoor temp and humidity, rain amounts, wind speed and direction, date, time. There are signal strength connecting bars (mine have a solid 5) that show the quality of the connection between the station outside and your console. These are located about half way across the top. There is your typical wifi connection strength indicator at the top right of the display. I am quite satisfied with the entire system. It does it all. The only thing it doesn't do is pour me a nice glass of port at dinner time!

I purchased the Ambient Weather WS-2902C to replace my faulty (a well known brand) weather station of 12 years that gave up the ghost.Firstly, I was very impressed with the packaging of the unit. The installation and setup is straight forward, even without resorting to reading the instructions that came with the unit. The console, with its coloured screen is easy to read and has all the information you need. The WS-2902C appears to be accurate and I can't walk past it without checking out the current readings. I am very happy with my purchase.JPC

UPDATE MAY 2023Returned!Note that this is the 1550 and not the 1551.The 1550 is old and only sold in Canada. The 1551 is the new one (with Observer IP 2.0j and only sold in the USA. Go figure. The listing says this supports soil monitors and a bunch of other sensors and it DOES NOT. Only the 1551 supports all the additional sensors. What a bait and switch, dump em on the dumb Canucks scam. I asked Ambient about this and they blamed Amazon for getting rid of old stock. Huh?Anyway get the Ecowitt 3500 for the same price. It is like the 1551 and supports all the additional sensors AND it includes a serviceable little console and uses wifi so does not need a cat6 cable plugged in to your router. Welcome to the 90s. The 3500 also takes a micro SD card so if you ever need the historic data for anything you have it without troubling yourself with a bunch of download steps that may or may not be there in the future.Note also that the 7 in1 sensor array is IDENTICAL in both offerings. Sure they look different but they are identical. In fact I plugged my Ecowitt console in before I powered down the Ambient array and the console picked it up right away!On account of the high price and old stock I down graded my review to 1 star.ORIGINAL REVIEWGot the 1550 (Canada). Installed it.Did not realize the "hub" had to be hard wired. It must be getting hard to find CAT6 cables. How old is this?I have not hard wired anything into my router for 10 years. The sensor array of course is identical to the Ecowitt which I uninstalled. Their hub is at least wireless. This could be an issue for me because the sensor array is 20' up a pole in the back yard while the router and now hardwired hub is in the front of the house. There are a lot of walls to go through. So far it is working but we will see. The point of wireless is to remove this limitation. There is confusion around "wireless". Is it a wireless station or a wireless hub or both? I re read the box and it did not jump out at me that this was a hard wired hub. Probably not a real selling point...And lastly my landed cost for the Ecowitt was $139 and the Ambient was $225.They do exactly the same thing EXCEPT Ambient reportedly lets me download historic data with 1 minute resolution on a monthly or weekly basis. Ecowitt summarizes (averages) everything older than 24 hrs and that decision alone cost them this sale.
