Weather Station Features & Specifications

TFT Full Color LCD Display

Our sleek desktop display is freestanding or can be mounted on a wall. This vibrant, dynamic LCD display is easy to read day or night, features a light or dark colored background, and automatically controlled brightness settings based on time of day. Connect additional displays (sold separately).

Measured parameters combine with calculated data:

  • 'Feels Like' Temperature (Wind Chill and Heat Index)
  • Dew Point
  • Gust (the maximum wind speed sampled once per second in the 16 second update period)
  • 10 Minute Wind Speed and Direction Average
  • Sunrise, Sunset, Moon Phase
  • Forecast, And more!

The WS-5000 also displays minimum and maximum conditions with time and date stamp, historical archived data, which can be exported to SD Card (optional, not included) for advanced data analysis in Excel. The SD Card is also used for firmware updates.

Ultrasonic Sensor Array

The wireless sensor array features a pagoda thermo-hygrometer radiation shield with passive aspiration for the upmost accuracy, a bubble level for plumb installation, and a solar panel.

It connects to the console via RF (915 MHz) up to 1000 feet line of sight in open air (300 feet under most conditions). The wireless signal will not pass through solid metal, earth, or ground.

The sensor array mounts to any pole between 1.25 and 2" diameter with adaptive mounting bracket and U-Bolt design that can be tightened to your mounting pole (not included).

Extra Large Rain Cup

The extra-large rain cup ensures better accuracy. Since the sensor is wireless, it can be placed close to the ground, and the removable lid makes for easy service and maintenance.

The Indoor Thermo-Hygrometer-Barometer

The WH32B indoor sensor will monitor temperature, humidity, and barometric pressure. One sensor is included with the WS-5000 weather station system.

Optional Sensors (sold separately)

The WS-5000 supports the following optional sensors:

  • (8) WH31E, WH31P, WH31PF, or WH51RF
  • (1) WH31L-AA
  • (8) WH31SM
  • (8) WH51LW
  • (4) WH31LA
  • (1) PM25
  • (1) PM25IN or AQIN.

The WH31E, WH31P, WH31PF, and WH51RF share the same 8 total channels and display on the console.

The additional sensor models do not display on the console, but pass-through to the Ambient Weather Network and can be viewed there.

The ambient weather station was easy to assemble. The weather hub to hook to your wifi easy to install and to calibrate barometric pressure. The dashboard is nice on your PC and the app works great. I can get instant weather information and the Ambient weather network you can share your data to the network and see all the weather stations in your area. I like this product, it's been working fine and I would recommend to the weather enthusiast out there.

I bought my Ambient Weather WS-5000 to replace functionality I had with BloomSky 2 + Storm, which apparently are not really supported or operating solutions. The WS-5000 is mounted with the BloomSky, but the WS-5000 is transmitting clearly to the base station, and that base station is uploading to Weather Underground and Ambient Weather's own cloud data and app. Since the Rain Gauge oddly assumes it needs to sit at-the-top of a pole, based on how it mounts to a pole, it is mounted on a small pole bought for an outdoor WLAN AP attached to a fence post, and reporting rainfall as expected. Only down side is that my lawn service blows grass all over, so checking the Rain Gauge regularly after a mowing is needed to ensure there is not grass and debris in the platter or obstructing the hole, which does have a protective filter spring.Only disappointment is that inside temperature and humidity unit does not have a switch to set °C and only displays in °F, not my unit of choice.I've added 4 of the add-on WH31E units, and will probably add 4 more, since they provide granular information I want about my house, especially complex areas like attics and my basement data center.Adding the lightning and air quality detectors in the future is part of the plan. After adding the base station to my WiFi network (not easy typing on the base station, but workable), I was also able to utilize the configuration App, which is different from the Ambient Weather App, to update firmware and check configuration items, like Weather Underground. It was mentioned, but the Ambient Weather App on iPad (potentially android tablets too?) is great, with large views, but works well on a iPhone 13 Pro Max and is easy to read on the iPhone 12 Pro (smaller) also.

Initial set up is a bit tedious but much easier than my previous Davis Weather Station. The controller is well designed and easy to use. It has a number of add on accessories like soil temperature, lightning detection, air quality, water leak detectors (for wash room or utility room) etc. It has a good range for connections up to 1,000 feet. I have my station about 250 feet from the house and it works fine but your WIFi connection may be a factor for lower performance. You need to put your wind detector in an area free of obstructions to get accurate 360 degree detection of wind speeds and the higher location the better. eg chimney or above a roof line. The web software is easy to use and a good design. Very handy if you want to keep an eye on what's happening when you're away. It has a camera option as well although I don't have this as I have blink cameras. The bird spikes for the rain collector are not worth buying. They are very difficult to attache and you endue using something kludgy to glue it on. I had my son print one that simply attaches to the ridge of the collector which works perfectly. They could do the same thing or better yet incorporate it in the design to begin with. You do not have to mount the rain collector component on the same pole as the wind detector. Or if you prefer you can mount the rain collector lower on the pole to make it easy to clean out and reduce birds roosting on it. Birds do not want their nests too low for predators to get them so if you mound it about 5 feet off the ground they will probably not bother. I have had this for over two years in very severe weather right on the river edge and have had no problems with its performance. I clocked a 58 mph gust yesterday. I have not seen most of the problems that people have cited. I actually have two at our homes and both have performed perfectly.

Hesitated a long time before buying the WS-5000 but it has proven to be a fantastic choice. I love its precision and the amount of information provided out of the box. Without any extra sensors, all the weather information I need is there. The goods1. Super precise with lots of information collected and reported on screen.2. When linked to Ambient Weather Network, you can see your own unit weather data on your phone (with their app) or on a web browser.3. Partly Solar powered. You still need AA batteries but most of the power comes from the solar panel on top of the unit.4. Can be linked to a global network of similar units, two networks in fact, where the WS-5000 shares data and allows you to read data from others. It makes it more informative than just using your unit.5. The unit is expandable, allowing you to add Thermo-Hygrometer, temperature reader (for upstairs vs. downstair or tracking wine cellar), soil moisture, wireless Waterproof Floating Pool Thermometer, and more. The hard1. Although easy to put together, it requires a bit of time to align the wind detection unit with True North.2. Connecting to the Internet and selecting how you want the display to report information a bit of time. Nothing dramatic but plan for at least 2 hours. If you're interested in weather, this is a fantastic unit. I highly recommend it.

Had another big brand American unit that had few features, cost a pretty penny and chewed through anemometers. Then when it finally died I searched the net for the best replacement weather station. I settled on the Ambient Weather Station and have found it to be an awesome product. Can access the data anywhere with internet and the data it reports seems accurate with the local weather service. The colour display is awesome and it was pretty easy to erect the outdoor unit on a steel pole and set up indoor receiver unit. I’ve had the unit for about three years and I highly recommend the product.

Received package in great shape but wanted the lightning detector and probe thermometer to monitor lake temperature. Installed the sensors, plugged in the tablet and everything worked immediately. Very user friendly, and easy to set up. I did have an issue with the lightning detector, but it was more about the placement on my part. Everything works great and I can monitor the system anywhere once I linked Weather Underground and ambient weather.net. I would recommend this station to anyone.

After a few months it's still working as expected. The main reason I got this more expensive unit was because it was the only one that stores data on a memory card. It's in the indoor, wall mounted display screen. The indoor screen works great for current conditions. It's about 100 or 150 feet away from the outdoor unit through a few walls. The web based interface displays current and historical data quite well but relies on continuous wifi. If the wifi cuts out the data doesn't get stored on the Ambient Weather cloud. If you're interested in ensuring continuous recording of data, I'd recommend a unit like this with a slot for an SD card.
