This traditional piece is at home in any fine study, library, upscale restaurant or scientific laboratory. Beautifully hand crafted, this three instrument plaque is wall mountable with scratch resistant soles.
The rich, solid wood framed dark cherry weather station measures temperature (in °F and °C), barometric pressure (mbar and inHg) and humidity (%).
The alloy porthole bezel with zirconium PVD finish will never tarnish or discolor. The case is made of brass, and the opening port is made of a high quality alloy. The hinged bezel has a beveled lens and screwdown fastener.
Important Notes and Specifications:
- Operates to about 3,000 feet altitude (do not order if you live above 3,000 feet).
- As with any barometer, you must calibrate for your local altitude (instructions included).
Thermometer
The dial thermometer uses a bimetallic strip wrapped into a coil. One end of the coil is fixed to the housing of the device and the other drives an indicating needle.
The principle behind a bimetallic strip thermometer relies on the fact that different metals expand at different rates as they warm up. By bonding two different metals together, the coil bends, causing the needle to move.
Bimetallic thermometers are not as accurate as bulb (mercury or red spirit) thermometers. The dial thermometer should require no calibration.
Hygrometer
Humidity measurement is among the more difficult problems in basic meteorology. Accuracy is difficult to achieve and are subject to drift.
A further difficulty is that most hygrometers sense relative humidity rather than the absolute amount of water present, but relative humidity is a function of both temperature and absolute moisture content, so small temperature variations within the air in a test chamber will translate into relative humidity variations.
Barometer
An aneroid barometer uses a small, flexible metal box called an aneroid cell. This aneroid capsule (cell) is made from an alloy of beryllium and copper. The evacuated capsule (or usually more capsules) is prevented from collapsing by a strong spring.
Small changes in external air pressure cause the cell to expand or contract. This expansion and contraction drives mechanical levers such that the tiny movements of the capsule are amplified and displayed on the face of the aneroid barometer.
Includes a manually set needle which is used to mark the current measurement so a change can be seen. It was invented by Blaise Pascal.

I don't feel this is cheaply made or junk. I was on the fence about purchasing due to some of the review comments. maybe what they got was not the same exact one.since free returns I took the leap of faith.I don't think the portal is metal or some alloy, but its very solid and I'm thinking double plated brass finish.the portal opens which is nice.the wood board is perfect and even fished on BOTH SIDES - why, they would do that I don't know but I'll take it!the temp has been accurate. the humidity very close. Not sure about the barometer just yet.what I don't like. the portal opens, but then the dial is unprotected.the contrast on the dials and the small print makes this hard to actually use.I don't think this is something I would like to use everyday because of the small print and low gauge contrast.fix that, and this may be perfect.I'd like to see something that is matching. Like one with same appearance but, a clock, tide clock, maybe moon phase clock or multiple time zone clocks.

Extremely beautiful and well made with quality materials.Temperature - slightly inaccurate but only like 2-3 degreesBarometer - crazy accurate, need to tap on the glass to get it to move but that's because the winding is so tight (which it needs to be for accuracy), it's kind of cool to see the pressure change and see weather move in or out right afterHygrometer - detects when I take a shower in my apartment, so fairly accurate

This unit looks very nice, would make a great gift. Accuracy(mine) not 100 percent. But good enough. I would recommend. Small enough and sufficient quality piece to look nice almost anywhere.

First rate item. The craftsmanship, design and accuracy of the instrumentation - all first rate. We're thinking of giving a few as gifts this holiday season. There are less expensive items like it on the market but this is a clear case of higher pricing equaling better quality (i.e. you get what you pay for).

This is a high quality dark wood weather station. I'm not too sure why some here feel that the base is plastic made to look like wood because it's not. It's definitely wood with a nice cherry finish. I don't think it's real brass for the housings but they're quite sturdy and look really good against the dark wood base.The unit was packed very well and was easy to set up and adjust (barometer). The one thing that might confuse folks in the USA a bit is that the temperature gauge is calibrated to Celsius rather than Fahrenheit even though the Fahrenheit numbers are in the outer ring and larger than the Celsius. What I mean is that rather than having the Fahrenheit numbers displayed in 10s (10, 20, 30, 40, etc) the Celsius numbers are displayed in 10s. This mean the Fahrenheit numbers in the outer ring are displayed in whatever is the equivalent to the displayed Celsius number (14, 32, 50, 68, 86, etc) despite what the "drawing" of the temperature dial shows on the product page. Otherwise, it's a fine piece.

A very attractive device. It's not science or lab quality but then it wasn't supposed to be. When shopping, I wanted to know if the thermometer had a celsius scale and the barometer included mm/hg or hectopascals (same thing). Looking at the product description indicated that it had while the attached picture looked like it was in English units only. I took the gamble and it was as I wanted it to be except for one quibble. The metric numbers are on the inside scales and hard to read. Even so, it is a convenient device and the calibration compares favorably with other devices I use. And it looks good hanging on the wall. Delivery was timely and it arrived through USPS and the military postal system in good condition. In my opinion, it was worth the money.

Looks good, works well. Upon further review, have had this unit for several years now. Would rate it only 2 star or 3 star at best. Temp gauge has NEVER worked. Still looks good.
