The NVR itself was very good, tested all the interfaces plus the 16 POE ports, tested clarity of the cameras, motion detection and IR at night - excellent, it works greatBut I made some resolution changes and lost the video, I couldn't get back into the NVR to reset the resolution but there was no instructions on how to reset the resolution or reset to factory default. This is where I found out that their technical support is really bad. Eventually, I had figured it out to open the NVR and found the reset button and reset the NVR to factory settings and got it fixed. I give a 5 star to the functionality and reliability of the machine and 1 star to the technical support. If there was negative star, I would have given a negative star to the technical support

I love this NVR. It is easy to setup and I love that it can hold two drives. The cooling seems quite adequate and the PSU is internal with it's own fan that is silent.

Troubleshooting tips:I had my original Amcrest for ~7years and I was content. Without any warning, It died suddenly. This was my opportunity to purchase the 16 channel POE so I could add extra cameras. First one arrived and it would only connect to my wifi Amcrest door bell/camera. None of the POE cameras would work. Didn’t even recognize them. After troubleshooting with the Amcrest team they suggested I return it to Amazon and get another. I did this and the second NVR did the same exact thing!Phone support once again told me to update firmware and do a factory reset. Same issue.I also purchased an additional Amcrest camera as a control in case the original NVR fried all the cameras. I plugged in the new camera and nothing else and it worked. When I plugged in the rest of the cameras I had nothing. I suggested to Dominic (Amcrest tech support) that there was a strong possibility that one of the cameras failed and was dragging down the rest of the cameras. He immediately dismissed my idea. Needless to say, I plugged every camera in one at a time until I found the bad camera. It was obvious because the screen went blank. I’m still happy with the product overall.

This unit worked fine for the first year. I was trying to diagnose a camera issue and it was recommended I update the firmware. I did. Now I have a brick.Once the firmware update was finished, the unit asked to reboot. It started the boot process as normal, but after the Amcrest logo disappeared from the screen, the screen stayed black. The lights on the front are lit the way there were when the unit was running but there is no way to get a console screen. Power down and you get the same thing, logo then black. This was where they said to do a factory reset. After a week of back and forth with Amcrest tech support, I find I am 3 months out of warranty and am basically screwed. And all because they said to do a factory reset. They were pretty insistent in doing so even though I was not convinced it would solve my problem. The major issue now is this unit is wanting me to enter a password on the console and will do nothing else until done. But without being able to see the screen, I have no way of doing so. Bricked! And Amcrest did it to me.As it is, I just returned 4 new Amcrest cameras as my original problem turned out to be the old cameras. I will not do business with this company again. If you own one of these, don't update the firmware unless you are under warranty!

Amcrest product support is amazing…purchased an Amcrest AD410 doorbell and wasn’t able to connect it to my DVR, less than 5 minutes in the phone with technical support Jason and we were connected and live viewing….amazing!

One thing not mentioned but can be resolved is that the NVR doesn't have mounting holes for laptop sized hard drives. Other than that I have no complaints at this time. It seems to be a high quality NVR.

I had qsee nvr and it had a no-working fan in the power supply, called them and after hours going round and round, glad I didn’t get help from them, only wanted to know model/brand of p/s... they would NOT give me the info. So, I already owned 5 Amcrest Wifi and POE cameras and really never had an issue.I did some research and found that this was the latest model out for Amcrest NVR with 16 ports having POE, that was important as I have Poe cameras. Asked around and people said I probably wouldn’t have any issues with the older qsee cameras, they were right. Setup was a breeze, heck, the interface is very close between the 2 manufacturers and even thought about using my backup configuration on the Amcrest. Mobile software also identical BUT......there is a big difference, I can use the mobile software out of the box on my iPhones and iPad’s and have full control even if I need to change something in the config..... could not do any of that with qsee..... limited to m/s I.e. ...... I picked up 1 4K camera and what a difference....... I’ll be buying more to replace the 1024 cameras I have now. I have 1 - 4TB drive right now, will throw in another 4 or 6 when they go sale, same goes for cameras, as they go on sale will get 4K.So far, I really love the Amcrest, oh, much smaller footprint too than the qsee..... which I like, as the filtered cubby hole I made in my garage that is 40 feet away has more room for airflow..... I didn’t want to hear the noise, but amcrest is super quiet not like the qsee and the heat...... get it folks if you’re thinking about getting a new NVR.... you got room to grow.......
